If I were a conjurer, I'd be hunting through my closets for my magicalist togs, because there has not been a
full lunar eclipse on the solstice since 1378. According to Dr. Tony Phillips, NASA fun astronomy-for-the-masses guy at NASA
Science News.
It'll look something like this, only spookier:
If you have any magical bindings, spells, ceremonies for which you need that confluence of portentous events, the peak is at 3:17 a.m. on 21 December, 2010, a Tuesday.
EDIT: 12/21/2010. We went out last night with binoculars and peered at the brilliant full moon visible from the front porch. I set my alarm to go off around 3:30. When I woke up, there was soft orange light coming in around the blinds, so I stumbled downstairs, bundled up, grabbed the binoculars, and went out for some magic.
It was now cloudy, with the moon nowhere to be seen. The cloud cover was lit with a uniform creamsicle glow, but the moon was not visible. After a little cursing and wandering about the yard, I went back inside and back to bed.
