Kane & Lynch, the first one anyway, seems like one of those games where you'd have to sacrifice a lot to actually like it. All I remember from the demo are huge grey rooms and a feeling vaguely depressed. I think the cover system was horrendous too but in retrospect, it might have not even had one and I wasted precious time jumping behind crap. Guess I'm too used to hiding behind walls in my TPSs these days. OH TANGENT!
Yeah, the first one had a cover system, but yeah it was ALSO really touchy and didn't do fuck-all to really protect you XD It's all just... geez, there's nothing that feels RIGHT or INTERESTING about it, from controls to gunplay-- the characters are kinda intriguing in that 'train wreck' sorta way, but the framework around them is pretty not so.
Funny thing is, I can sit through something like "Cloverfield" or "Blair Witch" without any problems, but that combination of watching it AND controlling it... goddamn, what a nightmare D/
