I need to plan a trip!

It's really JUST occurred to me that I have a two week vacation from work starting in a week or two, which means I need to come up with something to do for that time! I'm in Europe. As my coworkers keep telling me - "tu dois en profiter", you have to take advantage (literally "profit from") the fact that I'm in France.

So I ask you this, friends list of people with discerning tastes: Where should I go?

I want to go beyond the greater Paris region this time, because I have three day weekends every weekend. Yeah, I know, you're probably mentally shaking your fists in jealousy right now. ;) My boss is awesome. I'm saving the really close stuff - which includes Paris, by train - for my weekends. I should go a bit further away for these coming two weeks.

I do want to visit Belgium and Holland, but they're still close enough I could manage them in three days, maybe. If I picked a city. If not, I have several more two week vacations - one in December, in which I plan to go to Germany with Marcella, a Canadian friend studying in Lille, and another in February, which I still have to plan... and I think that there's one at the end of April, after which I'm just leaving the country to go back to Canada.

So where should I go this time? I'm thinking Southern France, possibly Italy - which cities should I try to get to and why? Preference for ones with train connections. Convince me of the merits of your chosen spot!

As a reward, and as foreshadowing for a future picture post, here, have a picture of the most famous cathedral in Rouen!

france calls to me, histories, spin the globe, i challenge you!, out and about
