DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO DOCTOR WHO

I'm not sure if it's been evident by my posts in this journal, but not only do I love history, but also time travel. On a related note, my sister convinced me to start watching Doctor Who a few months back, and after a slow start, I blitzed through much of the five and a half seasons of the new Doctor Who series over the past month. Doctor Who is amazing~!

To quote Neil Gaiman, who is also awesome and whose awesome word you should take on the awesomeness that is Doctor Who:

"The simplicity of the Doctor Who mythos... People, people are intimidated! They think that there's 47 years worth of stuff they need to know before they can enjoy anything. And you want to say is no: look, there is a blue box. It's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. It can go anywhere in time and space: sometimes even where it's meant to go. And when it turns up there's a bloke in it called the Doctor, and there will be stuff wrong. And he will do his best to sort it out, and he will probably succeed... 'cause he's awesome. Now sit down, shut up, and watch "Blink"."

That's really all you need to know... aside from the fact that the Doctor is an alien (a Time Lord, one of the most awesome and pompous species ever) and can do something crazy called "regeneration" in which he essentially becomes a new man but retains the memories of his old selves while acquiring a new face and personality (mostly, though they build off of each other). Essentially it's how his species cheats death and becomes immortal. Anyway, my sister showed me that clip of Neil Gaiman's interview, then made me watch "Blink" (episode 10 of season 3 of the new series), which is told from an outsider's point of view and so she finds out about the Doctor at the same time as you do. And it's amazing. And creepy. And timey-wimey, and amazing. Look, here, just watch David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor:

You may also want to watch this next clip of Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor, telling off this alien prison guard who just threatened to blow up planet Earth:

The latest episode of the sixth season - the latest episode out - BLEW MY MIND, by the way. IT BURNS LIKE GALLIFREY. Seriously, lately the series has DEFINITELY been playing with the concept of time travel and BLOWING YOUR MIND.

On a related note, I have just purchased THIS and THIS from ThinkGeek.com. Because I'm cool like that. (And the more I say that phrase, the less cool I sound BUT I CARE NOT).

If you love this show already - or if you came to love it having been convinced by this post - you should definitely see these two clips in which Craig Ferguson interviews respectively Matt Smith (the Eleventh Doctor) and Karen Gillan (one of the Eleventh Doctor's companions, Amy Pond) to hilariously entertaining and Scottish effect.

FURTHERMORE it would make my LIFE to be walking through work (Fort Edmonton Park) and see a TARDIS parked somewhere along one of the streets of historic Edmonton. MY LIFE, PEOPLE.

Here, have some Doctor Who GIFs while I flail incoherently about how much I love this show:

Actually, you know what? I shall return presently with a whole post of Doctor Who GIFs I want to share. Just because. >_>
