Title: LOVE GOES ROUND
Rating: G
Pairing: Byunghee/Yoseob (main), some other parings as well :P
Genre: AU, Angst, Crack (some places)
Summary: Byunghee, a perfect guy in many people's opinions, is in love with Yoseob, the precious little brother of Seungho. Most of his friends are happy for him (especially Sanghyun) and try to help him to get together with Yoseob. But things don't go the ways they've expected.

Byunghee is a decent guy. Nah, saying that is still an understatement. In fact, this guy is pretty awesome, I tell you.

Surprised? Ever wondering why?

Reason number one: he’s a bookworm. Not really a bookworm, I just mean that he’s an excellent student. He’s not the best student in school; that top place already goes to the nerdy Lee Kikwang, younger brother of Lee Changsun. You know what, the Lee brothers are undoubtedly interesting. While the younger looks like a nerd, he’s in fact a genius while the older, despite his brilliance, he’s in fact a nerd! However, they both are machines on the dance floors. ‘Kay, back to our Byunghee. Like I said earlier, yep, he’s not the best student around campus, but he’s still doing an enviously impressive job in, well, whatever he’s studying.

Reason number two: he’s the charming prince of the music club. You should see him dance once. Maybe he’s not the best dancer in school, but he actually puts a lot of efforts into his moves. That alone is enough to make others admire him. And when he raises his voice, girls go all nuts and start screaming uncontrollably, like they’re seeing some celebrity or something.

Reason number three: he has the look, duh (there must be a reason for the nickname ‘charming prince’, right?). He used to have this geeky mustache that makes him look much much older than he really ages but sis says he looks manly with it (what the…I can never understand sis’s taste in men), but when I can finally talk him into taking care of that ‘problem’, he’s got his handsome back, and lotsa girls in my school agree with me.

Reason number four: he has the attitude. He respects everyone around him, from the cafeteria lady to the principle, from his peers to the teachers. For girls, he’s an ideal of a boyfriend: gallant, protective, caring and gentle. Not just that, he’s someone who give you a feeling of safety, a feeling that you can lean on when things get tough. For guys, he’s a great buddy to get to know: funny, outgoing, understanding and a good secret-keeper. And if you are lucky enough to be in his close circle of friends like I am, you’ll find out an interesting side of him: a mother hen. Yes, a mother hen. He takes good care of us, cooks us meal (I tell you, his cooking is just barely edible, so don’t expect much), worries sick if any of us gets sick; he sometimes yells at us coz we’re lazing on doing homework or on practicing, but that only means he cares.

That’s just the Byunghee he shows the outer world. The real Byunghee isn’t as tough as he tries to look like. Those are all his attempt to hide his sentimental side, to hide his feelings. He’s always try to bottle all his sadness and pain, worrying that he’d be a burden for us. But nothing can be hidden forever. Every once in a while, his feelings will get too much to handle, and if you get pass his room during these time, you could hear him sobbing inside.

As his friends, we just let him be. Also, we learn to read his emotions through his expressions. A frown, we’d know he’s upset; or a head-shake, we’d know there’s something troubling his mind.

However, lately he’s acting a little bit strange. Nah, not a little but really really strange. He’s usually seen smiling or laughing alone. He even ditches us to hang out with the basketball team! I don’t say that sport is bad or that he hates sport, but he used to spend lots of his time to dance with the Lee brothers, or go shopping with Hyunseung, or tutor Chulyong and me how to sing. Now? He spends all his freetime (aka time without class or homework or part-time job) to play basketball with a lame excuse - “It’s good for my health. You should also try it.”.

No matter what, when, where and how we confront him, that same excuse always comes up. We spy, we stalk, we try everything we can come up with to find out the reason of his change of heart, but all seem futile. Having no other choice, we have to ask for advice from a professional, my sis (really, I don’t wanna ask sis but she’s the only one we think is capable, so…yeah I just have to go along).

However, when I (on behalf of the others) come to ask my sis, she just shrugs and asks if I - we - could be any denser. It’s weird, right?

“Yah, he’s in love~” Sis tells me one day when I’m trying to prove to her that I’m not dense (I dunno if others are dense or not but I am definitely not dense!). “Really, he’s that obvious. How can none of you notice? Oh boys…” and she leaves with that.

That’s not true, right? Byunghee doesn’t seem like… Wait, maybe sis’s got a point there, I mean the ‘in love’ part, not the ‘dense’ thingy (I’m not dense). Well, lemme see… There’s this lil guy in the basketball team (he’s not actually ‘in’ the team but since he’s the younger brother of the team captain, Yang Seungho, so he’s counted as ‘in’) and our Byunghee does seem to perk up whenever his name is mentioned and his eyes also do seem to linger on his small figure (Wow, the signs are pretty obvious. I must have been too busy to not recognize, not because I’m dense, ‘kay?). What’s his name again…Yoseob? Yeah, that’s his name, Yang Yoseob.

When I tell the others, their reactions are kinda funny. The Lee brothers keep jumping up and down like they have ants in their pants, Chulyong just points at me while chanting “I told you so.” (that hyper kid, he hasn’t told me a thing!), while Hyunseung just a simple “Oh” (that guy, he’s always indifferent like this). Anyway, the point is, I tell the guys about this for two reasons. One, they ask me to find this out after all; and two, since Byunghee always take care of us, so I want us to do something for him, and in this case, help him to get together with that Yoseob guy.

It isn’t easy as it sounds though. We don’t have any connection with the blond boy, or anyone around him. Chulyong knows one of his friends, Dongwoon, but that doesn’t help much to know better about our target, except for that he’s Seungho’s precious younger brother (as if we don’t know this yet, useless Chulyong). Not to mention we’re not experienced in this aspect (I mean love thingy). However, thank goodness, we still have a friend of sis, Junhyung, who best-friends with Doojoon, Seungho’s best-friend, but doesn’t best-friend Seungho himself (weird, I know but life is full of surprise like this). He tells us that Yoseob is a nice person, a little bit hyper but caring and sweet, which we consider to be perfect for Byunghee.

However, once again, my sis is needed (the improvement this time is all of us go see her) coz really, like I said earlier, we have no clue about this stuff.

Her response makes us worry though. “If you care for him that much, then try to talk him out of liking the blond, not try to pair him up like this. Byunghee’d get hurt eventually. That blond boy is simply just out of your league. I bet Byunghee knows this, that’s why he doesn’t tells the blond anything.” And a little bit pissed off as well. Out of our league, she said? I admit he’s born in a wealthy family, is so brilliant that can rival our Kikwang, has awesome voice, the voice that is said to be of an angel; and being the younger brother of Seungho, the school’s golden boy, also gives him a boost in status (kekekek, sometimes I have to admire myself for being able to find all these out in such a short time; I’m definitely better than Chulyong, ne?). But all those can’t mean that he has the right to be out of our league! Never ever!

Even though I keep telling myself that Yoseob is just a normal person, that he’s just on the same level as us, somehow I still grow to hate him. And it’s hard, I tell you. One of the tasks must be done in helping Byunghee to be with Yoseob is to befriend him first (Yes, I’m not taking my sis’s warning, we all don’t though; coz seriously, what’s the bad thing about get them together?). And you know, the more you know him, the harder it gets to hate him. He’s just like what everyone describe, a nice and cute little ball of sunshine. He’s kind and caring, he treats everyone the same, not caring the different in status, and his voice is just as beautiful.

The more time I spend with him, the more I like him and want to spend time with him. I also drag the whole gang (that’s us: Byunghee, the Lee brothers, Hyunseung, Chulyong and me) to hang out with him. We don’t just sitting around gossiping while watching his brother’s team playing basketball, but actually hang out as well, like go to the amusement park or go shopping at the mall (Byunghee keeps thanking me for helping him to have time with the blond). He also helps us to understand each other better, and I’m grateful for that.

Having him as a friend, it feels like I have a brother, to have fun together, to bully and to share secrets. And I don’t know since when, I forgot to hate him, I even forgot the reason I try to be his friend in the first place (and Byunghee never try to remind me this at all, just like all he need is looking at the blond, or that he really thinks Yoseob is out of his league).

“Would you hate me if…if I were to hurt you or a friend of yours, Hyunie?” He asks me one day, and he looks like he’s gonna cry any time now.

“Nah, you would never do so, so why should I hate you? Why asking, Seobie? Are you cheating on me?” I tease while giving him a shoulder hug.

“Ha, as if I’d be yours! Just wondering…in case…” The last part is just a murmur, so I don’t dwell on it much. He then turns and smiles at me like nothing has happened, and runs off afterwards with the excuse that he needs to go somewhere with Seungho and Doojoon.

Ever since then, Yoseob doesn’t spend much time with us anymore, which makes Byunghee depressed, a lot. He doesn’t show up at his brother’s practice, doesn’t picks up when any of us call (not Byunghee, of course) or replies our mails, and he even ignore us if we were to cross roads, like he’s never known us before, like he’s never walked into our lives. But everytime we cross roads like that, I swear I see that look in his eyes, the look of the day he asked me if I’d ever hate him.

It’s been two months now, and I can’t take it anymore. Byunghee as well, and he decides to tell Yoseob how he feels about the blond. We all cheer him and wish him luck, and we also expect that Byunghee would drag Yoseob back into our lives. However, what we’ve got at the end of the day, just like sis told us before, is a hurt and broken-hearted Byunghee. He doesn’t shed a tear, and doesn’t say a thing but we all know how things turn out, so we let the topic drop, not wanting to hurt him any further. Everyone tries to comfort him, I try as well, but I still have something else in my head, a question - “Why would you do this to us, Seobie?”.

So no matter how he tries to avoid us, I still manage to corner him the next day. “Why Seobie, why would you do this?”

“I try…I do try to stay away from you, so that I won’t hurt him…so that you won’t hate me, Hyunie… I really try…” He cries this time, and I can’t help but hold him and calm him down.

“Why staying away from us has any connection with not hurting Byunghee?” I ask once he’s calm down.

“I thought, if I keep distance from you guys long enough, then one day you’ll eventually forget about me, and Byunghee’ll not like me anymore so he’ll not be hurt.”

“Is it because you think you’re too good for him, for any of us? Do you look down on us for the whole time?” I can’t help but sound a bit bitter.

“No no, it’s not that, I really like you guys, especially you. And I enjoy my time with you guys a lot… But…but…” He starts trembling, probably he’ll break down again soon.

“I’m not mad at you, Seobie. I just wanna know your reason, so tell me.” I grip on his hand, forcing him to look at me to show him that I’m not angry at him.

“It’s just…Seungho…and Doojoon…”

“What’s wrong with them? They’re the ones who actually hurt Byunghee, not you, right?”

“No no, not that, too… Seungho…he’s just too overprotective, and he trusts no one other than Doojoon to take care of me. That happens ever since our mom passed away. So if anyone dares to claim that they love me, he’d… Once there’s this boy in my school, he confessed to me in front of Seungho one day and the following day, he had to be hospitalized for a whole month. He said nothing but I bet it had something to do with Seungho. I don’t want the same tragic thing to happen to Byunghee, so…”

“So you stay away from us, as a way to protect us, especially Byunghee, right? And you have to turn Byunghee down before he’s gone to far and tell Seungho, too?”

“Yeah…”

“I understand now. I’ll explain everything to the guys, they’ll probably understand.”

“And tell them that I’m sorry. I like you all but I can’t see you guys again. Seungho’s pissed.”

“So that means this is the last time we meet like this?”

“I’m afraid so…but remember I’m always your friend, and I forever like you all.”

He runs away again, runs away from our lives, from Byunghee’s live, from my life. But midway, he rushes back and gives me one last hug. “I don’t want this…but I can’t do different… Seungho’s my brother, and I love him a lot. Please understand…” I feel my shirt wet and hot, he’s crying again…

“I know.” I say when he releases me from his hug to wipe his tears.

“And please tell Byunghee, tell him that he’s a great man, that he deserve someone much better than me. And that person is not far away. All he needs to do is to turn back.” With that, he finally makes his leave from our lives.

It takes time for me to fully register everything Yoseob says (I’m usually not this slow though) and to tell the guys what he tells me that day. It takes me even longer to realize what he means in the message he asks me to tell Byunghee alone. There’s really someone always be by his side. This person is always be by his side, taking care for him. This person is the one who’s least happy, or should I say sad but tries to stay indifferent, when he knows Byunghee’s in love with Yoseob. Hyunseung.

As time goes by, Byunghee finally gets over Yoseob, and even starts to develop feelings for Hyunseung. They’d make a great couple, 'cause they both give a lot for their relationship (which I’m not gonna get into detail - it’d take days, I tell you). The other guys, they starts to forget about Yoseob, like he really has never stepped into their lives (which is Yoseob’s effort in order to protect us). For me, no matter how hard I try, there’s still a place in my heart for him. And once in a while, when we accidentally cross roads, he’ll sneakily send me a smile when he thinks Seungho’s not looking, and it’s enough for me to feel happy, to feel like the blond is still with us like the old days even though I know he’s also finally find happiness in Doojoon’s embrace.

…It seems like I’m actually the one who should get over him now, right?
