My last two papers have finally been turned in. I'm officially done for the semester.
One of the papers came together right under the deadline, it was such a typical college moment, we literally finished it a few minutes before the due hour. And then my computer loses internet access and I can't email the paper to my group member for her to print at the computer lab. So there I go holding onto papers and my laptop rushing downstairs to get the disk to the lab. We turned it in a few minutes late, I still couldn't help but chuckle at the moment. It was a fitting end to a semester that has been all about pushing (and stressing) myself to the very last minute and somehow still getting things done.
The other group paper...oh I will be proud of that paper for years to come. What was meant to be a concise paper on the Texas foster care system turned out to be an 88-page report! Regardless, this morning there we were all huddled around my computer reading this thing page by page. A professor walked by us and asked, "You do know that classes are done right? You all are working way too hard." Once it was all printed and put together by good ol' Kinkos, I was so excited to see it finished because it has been the baby of our semester. I felt like a total dork, I've never been this excited for a paper before; I almost didn't want to turn it in, I wanted to keep it for myself.
The weird thing is that I don't really feel that weight lifted just yet. I think so much weight had been put on us this semester that it's going to take some time before I truly feel it gone. But by then, a new load will be waiting for me next semester.
So until then, I get to go home to El Paso for a couple of weeks, oh and of course I get wait for final grades. But after seeing these papers and that all the work and effort actually went somewhere and it accomplished all of the amount of work it did, well the grades just don't really seem that important anymore.
