since there's no more lampion until next year, i need to get out the whole movie-review-thing.

everyone said that it wasn't as good as the others, or that it didn't have enough action, but i feel completely the opposite. i think it had a pleasant balance of action, romance, and overall swashbuckling. (spoilers abound.)

so, johnny depp. johnny, johnny, johnny. how much did they pay you to do those scenes where there were a minimum of FIVE of you in one shot? and what about all those repeat jokes? (i.e. the whore-slaps-jack joke, the tossing-mysterious-liquid-on-gibbs joke, etc. however i NEVER get sick of the monkey named jack, he's adorable.) but you were fantastic usual, so i have no real complaint here. and i am SO proud of you for doing the right thing and making it so that will stabbed davey jones' heart. go you.

speaking of will. GUH he just gets... gorgeous-er every time. i really appreciated the appearance of orlando's third acting skill: sarcasm. we can put that on the list with 'wounded puppy' and 'brave fighter.' but the part where he gets stabbed by davey jones? eek. i sat bolt upright and gasped the largest gasp of my life, i believe. the woman in front of me was NOT best pleased. i was prepared to start bawling until i learned that his gorgeous-osity would go on forever.

i've heard people say that there was too much focus on the 'will and elizabeth' subplot but i thought it was fantastic: all angst and sexual tension. it was especially funny when they got 'married.' i thought that was a great idea, personally. and i noticed that kiera knightley had grown a pair (figuratively, obv.) and stopped being a girly girl. really appreciated that one. hot girls in battle scenes is overdone, but she pulled it off well.

i liked the bit about the lady without a toothbrush being calypso, but was it just me, or did she kinda disappear in a mess of plots after she made that maelstrom thing?

one thing that really bothered me: i felt like keith richards was thrown into that movie on the grounds of 'overly cited as being johnny depp's inspiration, and hey! he's famous.' his point in that movie was really pointless. a really famous pirate that we hadn't heard of until that part of the movie? give me a break. that being said, i thought the gathering of all those pirates was super cool. except that they didn't really do anything in that big battle scene. they just kinda hung back and looked tough, and would occasionally shake their weapons menacingly.

GAAHH they killed norrington. that was UPSETTING. he was totally growing on me, but no. that elizabeth/norrington kiss was TOTALLY random though, i will say that. i hope she feels bad, the stupid whore.

another comlaint that i had was that i had no idea who was where and when. there were so many ships, and so many different groups, so you couldn't tell who was good and who was bad. and SOME people kept switching ships, so you couldn't classify by that either. on top of that, people kept swinging to other people's ships during battle scenes so... like, i had no idea where will and jack were for many MANY sequences. but thankfully it wasn't too important to the plot, so life went on.

all in all, i feel like they were biting off a little more than they could chew. yes, many plots tied together nicely, but a great many of them did not. in place of a clever end, many of those plots ended in a random but timely death. and there were too many to possibly focus on one, which is why i need to see it again soon.
