Went to Ozzfest on Sunday.
I was kinda dissapointed. The whole second stage was only thrash metal, half-assed black metal, and just...crap. Let me just say that I can only enjoy so much Thrash Metal. After a while I'd really like ot hear something different, maybe along the lines of Heavy Metal, or melodic metal (what I call the likes of Lacuna Coil). You know, switch it up a bit. The only four bands that actually were enjoyable were Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Killswitch Engage, and Rob Zombie. And I missed Arch Enemy because they were first and I spent at least an hour trying to drag my friend out of bed so we were two hours late.
Rob Zombie, what to say about him. He knows how to entertain. Played almost all my favorite Zombie songs and actually told us what his new movie was about "a love story between a man and his gun." I couldn't stay in the pit, though, because half my toenail got ripped off, but at least it didn't hurt. I watched from afar and enjoyed it anyways.
The Haunted and Wicked Wisdom really sucked. Mastodon and A Dozen Furies were tollerable, but not what I would call good. Gizmachi was...eh. As I Lay Dying was their usual self, I don't think I need to say more (my friend's comment: it sounds like they're taking a leaf from their name and actually ARE dying...another friend's comment: They suck as much as the book)
The Main stage was slighly better. In Flames was good music to eat to. Black Label Society was fantastic as ususal. Shadows Fall was alright, I took the time to take a nap. Mudvayne was decent, if not entertaining even if the music was so-so.
The only two bands where I expiered with joy to watch were Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. Boy does Iron Maiden know how to put on a show. They had the backdrops that changed and the lights that just made the whole stage a work of art. It wasn't just the lead singer who was entertaining, either, the guitarests and even the BASS player was getting into it and the whole band had sooooo much energy it was amazing. I really wish I could see them again.
Black Sabath didn't have the stage presence of Iron Maiden, and Ozzy had a chest cold so his voice wasn't perfect - but I'll forgive him since he still managed to put on a good show. Black Sabbath, I can't say anything about Sabbath except they are Legendary.
