Hello, I just joined.

I notice that when talking about body image and the such the topic is almost always female. Well, yes girls have more estrogen and their biological programming makes them prone to being more emotional than males. Guys have emotions too though and do care about their looks. We tend to compare outselves to members of our own sex, but I was wondering about the opposite sex? The standards you hold yourself to are probably higher than that of your partner. But maybe they aren't. I know I am picky about my own looks, but I am incredibly picky about guys' looks. I hate abs and facial hair and broad shoulders and blue eyes...? Okay, I'm insanely picky! I initially wouldn't even go near my now fiancee because I thought he looked gay and he had a moustache half the time. Though with girls it's a little different. Most girls appear beautiful to me at first.

Of course, that being said, the moment I get to know somebody the impression I get from their outside appearance melts away and if I find their personality to be beautiful, their outside appears beautiful to me. If they're not so nice, they become ugly to me.

ie. My initial perception of people is Guys=Ugly, Girls=Pretty. Biased much? Well, I'm not a psychologist so I'm not going to explain it. Maybe it's normal, but I don't know, which is why I'm asking you all :D

So I guess this is a question of perception. How do you judge beauty of people around you, particularly the opposite sex?
