I've got a question or two about vitamins.

Right now my regimen is fish oil capsules, Biotin, and a multivitamin called Women's Ultra Mega. Now, these give, like, a two or three pill dosage daily...is that right? I mean, am I truly supposed to take two fish oil pills a day? With that Vitamin A toxicity thing, it makes me wonder if I shoulder lower my dosage or take it less often.

Also, is the Multivitamin I mentioned a good one? If it isn't, what's a good one?

Vitamin A is only toxic because it's fat soluble, like Vitamin C and K
I assume that's unlike C and K?

to the original comment, there are a lot of vitamins that hit toxic levels, the question is how much you take. Look for daily upper limits online, not everything agrees on the limits, but it'll give you an idea of what is more toxic and what you will hit faster.

C is water soluble. E, D and K are the other common fat solubles.

So it's just better for me to take specific vitamins instead of a catch-all thing. Gotcha. I think I can easily work with that!

This has been incredibly informative, thank you! It's a shame now that I spent money on the jar of multis. >_

why are multivitamins bad? Two of my doctors have always recommended I take one.

Another reason those things may recommend a couple doses a day is that your body can only absorb a teeny amount of certain vitamins at a time. I forget which ones, but in those cases it could potentially be for that reason and in order to have an adequate amount of whatever vitamin it is, you'd have to take it a couple times a day in small amounts so that your body can in fact absorb enough.
