First, thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier post about my sudden acne. After thinking it over, I am going to see a dermatologist and at the very least seeing what she has to say.
Second, I had a question concerning rosacea. My mom has very bad rosacea, to the point that she needed surgery on her nose so that she could breathe (it had swollen to twice its size). They had to cut skin and reconstruct her nose it was so bad. As you know, in the US at least, treatment for rosacea is considered "cosmetic" and not covered under most insurance plans. In fact, payment for my mother's surgery was denied despite the doctor's appeal to explain medical necessity [i would say breathing is essential to life, wouldnt you ;) ]. Luckily, the surgeon waived his fee, which ran into many thousands of dollars.
Anyway, she is having treatments to contain the rosacea and obviously these are expensive and not covered. Three dermatologists have already told her that they will not appeal this with insurance companies and basically said either pay out of pocket or go somewhere else.
Has anyone here successfully appealed their medical insurance to get coverage for treatments or known anyone who has? If so, any tips or information would be greatly appreciated. She did join an online support group which published newsletters but she didnt think they provided anything for their subscription cost that she couldnt get online somewhere for free.
TIA.
