I've heard the brushing your teeth with baking soda is a good/cheap way to whiten them. Whose actually done this and can give me some tips. I'd like to try it but don't know exactly what to do... tia!

wet your toothbrush, dip in baking soda, brush. It tastes awful (salty), but it works fairly well. I make my own toothpaste with baking soda, a drop of tea tree oil, and several drops of peppermint oil, plus Matcha powder. You can skip the matcha and just flavor the baking soda if you want, just use food grade oils and start small and work your way up, EO's are strong.

You can also dip your toothbrush in it before you put toothpaste on the brush, that way the flavor will be masked some, or just buy baking soda tooth paste. I like the arm & hammer whitening one, and saw good results. I stopped using it because the SLS was giving me canker sores.

If you switch to just baking soda or making your own toothpaste, you should consider getting a flouride rinse to use after brushing. Find one that is alcohol free, ACT makes the only one I've seen.

Some people feel that baking soda damages tooth enamel. I don't have official word on that, so if you have soft enamel you might want to check with your dentist. However, my dad has been using straight baking soda for 25+years with no complaints from our dentist. But as a family we have freakishly good teeth when it comes to enamel and hardness.

That was very helpful, thank you. I have a dentist appointment soon so I'll ask about it there before I start.

Definitely do some research on fluoride before deciding to use it for anything.
