hand, hair, and nail care

so...when it comes to my body...i know nothing about basic TLC...(if you recall my facial post)...so...rather than make several posts on different things...i will make 1 post with different things in it:

hand/nail care 101? i very rarely go to the nail salon..as i don't wanna spend the $$$ all the time...i rarely paint my nails...but i wanna change. my cuticles are always gross, my skin peels often around the nail...sometimes the skin is dry...just over all...my hands are not as healthy as they could be. plus, my manicures always look crappy...as i am still getting used to painting them with precision. my left hand still can't paint steady as my right...

so...what is the basic nail/hand care i should know about? from creams, to cuticle removal, to tricks and tips for painting the perfect nail? how often should i be "taking care" of my hands? a regiment might work..as i only seem to "take care" of my hands when i decide i want to do a manicure.

second:

When i wash my hair...all i do is shampoo and conditioner. thats it. nothing else. occasionally, i will put curling gel in it before a party or something. My hair is neck lenght and is naturally brown and curly (with natural red and blonde hairs interspersed through out). it often looks unruly if i go to bed and wake up. when i woke up this morning, i looked like a hobo who hadn't bathed in weeks...thats how nappy/curly/crazy my hair looked

I use garnier fructise for dry and curly hair...an when that runs out..then for a bit i will switch to head and shouders to curb the dandruf...and then back to garnier...because it seems to work in keeping my hair feeling healthier...but is there more i could be doing? what about straining creams for when i DO straighten my hair? I really don't know what to put IN m hair to protect it and keep it shiney and silky when i get out my straightner....some stylists have used sprays...some have used creams...so i dunno.

so...i think thats it. i can't think of anything else i need help with.

p.s: i LOVE LOVE LOVE o-p-i nail polish but often times do not wanna pay 8 bucks for it...i like china glaze but i can't find it (so...any brands at salons!)...sally hanson is ok...but what brand nail polishes do YOU like that hold up REALLY well and what polish brands do you HATE because they suck? i am looking to get more polish but at a cheap price yet still be good quality. i just bought NYC today because it was 97cents,...we shall see
