Coconut oil natural SPF?

Feb 25, 2012 16:45

So on my quest to find a new sunscreen I came across people saying that coconut oil naturally has an SPF of aprox. 4 to 6.
This really baffled me as I've always thought that having oil on your face in the sun is a huge no-no.

Does anyone know if it's true and does anyone have experience with this? Are there other oils that are safe to use in the sun, or even have a natural SPF?

Just to clarify: I don't mean to use it as a sunscreen, just as a moisturizer for skin lips and hair.
Plus, the reason I dont use the OCM in the morning is because I'm afraid there would still be some oil on my face once I go out (after putting on sunscreen) so it woud be worth a shot to use coconut oil in my morning OCM ritual.

Thanks!
