Hello Beauties! I come to you for fashion/accesory advice. I am renting two dresses from Rent the Runway for NYE weekend. in Atlantic City with my husband. NYE is OUR holiday so I am going all out.

The first dress is an absolutely stunning sweetheart strapless red jacquard mini. I am wearing this dress for the night before NYE. I am having a bit of ( Read more... )

for the red dress i'd suggest wearing the black jewelery. i think it's always kinda tricky to combine red with red since you hardly ever find the exact same shade. makeupwise i'd stick to a simple classy makeup with a red lip, thin black eyeliner & lots of mascara. wearing your hair down is a good idea so you won't look 'over the top'.

with the silver dress it's kinda hard. i honestly wouldn't combine it with blue. the dress itself is so (i don't know how to express it) bold (?!) that i'd say to keep the rest of the outfit as simple as possible. maybe black heels, a black clutch, simple makeup, either no or just thin black jewelery. let the dress speak for itself without adding too much distraction. i'd completely agree with your hair & maeup idea here

The reviews for the silver dress say it has kind of a blue tinge to it. The earrings are just studs, hard to see when hair is down anway, and the shoes are dark navy so they look almost black. I agree with you that I want to keep the look simple which is why I only want to wear earrings. I think navy is a neutral color, right?

I think bare legs always look cheap and tacky, so wear tights!

And IA with the commenter above me - if you wear those earrings you'll look like Pat Butcher on the pull - it'll be way too much. Let people look at the dress.

I thought I was the only one who felt that way about bare legs. But for a festive night out I wouldn't wear 100% opaque tights unless I was walking to dinner in a really cold, cold place like Yellowknife or something! I would wear semi-opaque like these.

The earrings are just studs, they're not loud and obnoxious. You can barely see them with my hair down. This is what the earrings look like when I'm wearing them with my hair down, you can barely see them.

IMO you should cover your legs in both dresses as there is so much skin on show, and once you sit down or bend forward there will be even more. Definitely agree hair should be down to cover some skin in a soft, flirty way. For one of the days you could pin one side of your hair up/ back?

The dresses will be longer on me than the models as they're taller than I am. The girls who reviewed wearing the dresses mentioned it was longer on them. I don't really think a strapless dress that hits right above the knee is too much skin. I don't really like wearing tights, they give me a stomach ache.

Then why did you suggest tights in the OP?? For comfort choose tights without a reinforced panel at the top and always a size larger than your regular dress size. If the dresses are long enough you could even get away with sheer hold up lace top stockings. Evens out your skin tone when standing and just a peek for your husband when seated!
