Last Sunday was one of those exceptionally bad days when it seems everything is falling at you. Only by the evening it became clear that it could've been much worse.
Dan's brand new (only 4000 miles) car was rear-ended yesterday afternoon and is in the body shop now. Some teenager was changing radio stations. Fortunately, no physical injuries to anyone - just the car. But, of course, major life disruption: long wait for police and AAA for both cars (the boy got even more damage), his mother arrival, looking fiercely at Dan and Rosa(!), towing to soembody shop, endless phone calls. So we got home only 2 hours later, around 3. And first thing I saw: open duct tube from the wall and the covering screen on the floor. and one of the cats missing.
What happened: Dan decided to take out and clean the duct filter - a very good idea I didn't know about. He took it out, washed all fluff and left out in the sun to dry. And he just put the screen against the opening but didn't secure it. We left, cats being curious started playing with it, and, naturally, brough it down. And then Catherine decided to explore the new territory.
Endless calls to her to come back - no reaction. We called the guy who did the maintenance on our ducts, apologized, asked about them. He said the main on eis wide enough but there are several small ones very narrow - even a cat may not be able to turn around. Also, screws may be sticking out... etc. Imagine our feelings.
Dan went to work (he had to catch up after being gone for a week), and Rosa and I stayed near the tube, still calling out with less and less hope.
A little after 6 Catherine leisurely got out, did a good stretch and meowed, probably asking: 'What's for dinner?'.
