Title: Just a Little Change
Chapter Summary: Donna remembers something from the Library....
Characters: In this chapter, Donna, Lee, and the twins
Notes: K, so as a note, this chapter does not really fit into the story. It's the first of (probably) several Library sequences, which are like deleted scenes except not at all. Think of this as chapter 2.5, a flashback of sorts that Donna has toward the end of Chapter Two. If you have any ideas about how I should handle these please let me know, but for now they will just be labelled as "Library Scene X" or something like that, and will be spaced throughout the fic where appropriate. Also, this is one of my first attempts at proper ship stuff, so I'm aware that it probably sucks, but I'm not much of a romantic so it's not my proverbial cup of tea. Hope you like it, and I'll post another proper chapter probably Thursday or so. Enjoy!

“Lee?”
Her husband looked up from his position on the floor as he stacked up the last of the twins' toys. “You're a l-little late if you were going to offer to help,” he teased. “Although....” He glanced around the room. “I seem to be missing Ella's panda. Have you seen it?”
Donna smiled and produced the tiny stuffed animal from behind her back.
“Ah, now I remember why I married you,” Lee said as she placed the bear with the rest. He walked up behind her and put his arms around her waist, and was just about to kiss her when two children in very not matching pajamas scurried into the room. “And what are you two up to?”
“We're not tired,” the girl complained. “And besides, Josh was pulling on my hair again.”
“Ella bit me first,” replied the boy, eyeing his sister's curls maliciously. “Now I've got stupid germs.”
Donna pulled away from Lee's embrace and laughed, kneeling in front of the twins. “I told you, no fighting,” she scolded. “Ella, your teeth are for food, not your brother's legs, and Josh, your sister's hair is supposed to be attached to her head, not used as a tail for the kite Daddy and I got you last week.” Both twins nodded, their eyes staring at the floor as they chorused, “Yes, Mummy.”
“Good,” Donna said. “You don't have school tomorrow so if you want to play for a bit longer you can. But just ten minutes, okay? Then both of you better be in bed or else.”
The twins giggled as she wiggled her fingers at them and Josh piped up. “Mummy, we're not scared of you. You're not a good tickler.” Donna waved her head from side to side and finally nodded in agreement. “Yeah, but Daddy is,” she said with a grin, and both twins squealed as Lee stepped toward them before they launched themselves at the newly arranged pile of toys in the corner.
“So,” Lee began as he and Donna sat down on the couch, “I believe we were in the middle of something before Dee and Dum over there decided to interrupt us. What was I saying?”
“They're amazing, aren't they?” Donna said quietly. He squeezed her arm and she turned her head to look at him. “Sorry, it's just the children. They're perfect. Lee McAvoy, you and I made some bloody beautiful babies.” She glanced toward the kids again, then back at her husband, and gave him a meaningful smile. “How do you fancy another one?”
Lee didn't answer, instead leaning over and pressing his lips to hers. Donna sighed contentedly as he threaded his fingers into her hair and kissed her deeply, wrapping his other arm around her shoulder.
“Hey, Josh,” Ella whispered. “Look.” Josh tore his attention away from yanking on the hair of Ella's favorite doll and looked up just in time to see his parents kissing. He glanced at his sister and a moment later they both screamed, “Ew! Mummy, Daddy, stop it!” Their mother made some sort of spluttering noise against their father's mouth and pulled away, laughing loudly as Lee blushed and sat up straight again. “Sorry, kids,” he said. “B-Bedtime, okay?”
Josh and Ella glanced at each other, then decided they were too lazy to argue and Ella ran up to hug their parents. “Night, Mummy,” she said as she launched herself into her mother's lap. Donna let out a small gasp of surprise but quickly wrapped her daughter in her arms. “Night, Munchkin.” Josh had gotten past the hugging phase already, except for when he hurt himself or knew he was in trouble, and waved at his father before scurrying off to his room, with Ella quickly following suit.
“Now,” Lee said once they heard the children's bedroom door shut. “What were you saying about making another baby?” Donna rolled her eyes and flopped down into his lap, grinning. “You are such a male,” she muttered. “And besides....” She paused, looking momentarily nervous but quickly regaining her happy expression. “What makes you think we still need to make this kid?”
Lee smiled back at her then his eyes widened. “Wait a minute. What d-did you just say?” Donna chuckled and grabbed one of his hands, placing it on her waist. “I'm really rather upset you know,” she said casually. “I finally lost most of the weight from those two and now my diet's been a complete waste.” For a bit she thought Lee was still speechless, then she realized he was stuck in mid-stutter. “D-D-D-Donna, you're having a....a b-ba-b....”
“Oh, skip to a vowel, you idiot,” she teased, and slid off the couch, pulling him with her and kissing him again. “I guess I've been so busy with the kids I didn't even have time to think about it. I took Ella in for her shots Tuesday and the doctor said I looked a bit sick, so he ran some tests just to make sure I hadn't caught that stupid bug from the kids and....well, you know. So,” she finished, her grin so wide he could see most of her teeth, “what do you think?”
Lee reached down and only bothered to stop kissing her when she slapped him on the chest so she could breathe again. “I think,” he finally answered, “that I love you.”
“You think?” Donna repeated flatly, her face forming an overdramatic pout. “Well maybe I only think I'm pregnant. And I guess it's only an opinion that you're gorgeous. Not even a very well-informed one at that,” she added, smiling at the indignant expression on his face. “Oh, stop that and come here.” Lee laid down on the floor beside her and she snuggled against his side, resting her head on his chest and listening to his heart. They sat that way for several minutes until she finally spoke again. “I know I love you, Lee, even if you really couldn't make up your mind. Though it's a good thing you can, because if you left me on my own with three kids I'd probably have to kill you.”
They both laughed and Lee lifted his head and pressed a kiss to the top of hers, running his fingers through her hair. “And I also know I'm exhausted,” she said with a sigh. She closed her eyes for just a moment and when she opened them they were in their bedroom. “That's weird,” she muttered. “I could have sworn....Never mind, it's not important. You know what is important?” She rolled over to face him and grinned. “I can't quite remember how this happened,” she said, pointing down at her stomach. “You wouldn't happen to have any idea, would you?”
“I m-might,” Lee responded, and shifted so he was right beside her on the bed, his arm around her waist. Donna closed her eyes and sighed contentedly, looking back up after a moment. To her surprise Lee wasn't in sight and she sat up, wondering how he had managed to move so quickly. It had happened earlier that day, with Doctor Moon, and then again at dinner when Josh and Ella had been eating one second and playing in the yard the next. Something's very wrong, she decided, but suddenly felt her husband kissing the back of her neck and shoved the thought away.
