I thought that the Cinco de Mayo was another (lesser) independence day? Like they won some battle or something? I never remember that it's a holiday until we decide to go get some Mexican food and wonder why the parking lot is overflowing. xD

I don't know what to make of the Tea Party. As a gamer i can see that they have made themselves look ridiculous. I know that there are a couple of people who used to go to my church that are involved locally. But i've been too busy going to class to go to any rallies or anything like that and i'm extremely wary. But all the crazy stuff that i've heard about happening at Tea Parties has always been Leftists trying to cause trouble. Like the time that someone was trying to start a fight and bit off someone's finger. There's a hard time of it here, the other side is well organized. They apparently harass people if the meetings are advertised, and it has been a really big problem the last eight years because they steal the signs in peoples' yards that have the names of conservative candidates on them (or even independent, for that matter). I alternate between wanting to do something--anything--to try to make a difference and just wanting to throw in the towel and move somewhere else.

True, but do they have a similar question on July 4? Or other Independence Days for other countries, for that matter? It also might have just been plonked onto this day for no particular reason, in which case I feel silly, but meh.

True. They're a bit nuts, but the actual trouble trouble seems to be caused by their opposition trying to make them look bad. I refuse to vote for anyone who uses those measures (the signs or any other antics), because, no matter their stance on issues, they've just proven to me that I can't trust their judgement. Of course if their supporters are doing it on their own despite the candidate's protests, it's a different story, but it still makes me nervous.

*hugs you*
