I pose a question:

At wesleyan, anti-intellectualism as a trend in the united states is a hot topic. When I look around, it seems to be everywhere- the mere fact that Bush's ratings were not distroyed after the debates seems like a prime example of it. (I hear that people think that kerry's style is intimidating and bush is endearing... by no means am i saying that all people that vote for bush do it for this reason... and by no means am i saying that bush is stupid (a bad speaker, yes, but not stupid, really)... i'm just critcizing some people for their reactions to the debates.) Actually, the politicalscene is just one example of anti-intellectualism in the US... I guess that in some ways this harks back to my questioning the favorite books of my peers... oi.

So here's my question:

Is there, in fact, a current of anti-intellectualism running through our country? Or is it only a catch-phrase in the wesleyan dialect?

And further:
Am I pretentious for even asking this question? Am I hypocritical for not knowing how to spell the words I'm typing and for not taking the time to look them up? Is this a reflection of the widening gap between the upper and lower classes? I could ask questions about this forever....
