Harry Potter, anything by Salinger, The Little Prince, The Awakening, The Da Vinci Code, Matilda

Memoirs of a Geisha, Catcher in the Rye, La Muerte de Artemio Cruz, The Red Tent, The Da Vinci Code, and, of course, Harry Potter. Girl with the pearl earing and Catch 22

Ender's Game, The Da Vinci Code, The Origin of Species

Ok. So what do these three groupings have in common? They were all directly copied an pasted from facebook "favorite books" and have not been edited. AND they ALL include the da vinci code as a favorite. 65 people at wesleyan put the da vinci code as a favorite book. This, according to my research, is second only to harry potter. I find it hard to take that the most popular favorite books at my school are (what i consider) a badly written, sensationalized, piece of thrilling trash, and a children's book.

I look at the lists of what people like to read, and I'm shocked... I get the feeling that these people are listing not what they personally love, but what they want people to think they love. Or rather, what people have told them to love. Maybe I'm too harsh. But my favorite books are books that I can read over and over. They are books that speak to me... How commercial has our society become? Can't we even think for ourselves?

I know that I'm not above this either. Hell, I read it, and I was gripped by it... i read harry potter and i love it. but it just seems to be a bit much.
so sorry for that one, kids. i just couldnt help myself.
