Ah a nice evening. We had a mission trip meeting. I am leaving sunday to go work in the south bronx for urban harvest ministries. I can't imagine what the experience will be like. I can't wait to help people and just go be selfless. God will use all of us on the mission to help make some people's lives a little better

but as long as you are polite but firm, establish yourself in the community by being nice to the bodega guys and such, and stay in sight you should be fine.
i assume that they will give you the basic safety lecture.. dont try to look wealthy, if you get mugged give them whatever they want, but dont let them take you anywhere, get one of those little pocket maps of the city so you can find your own way if you get lost or seperated, dont touch anything you find in a subway...
heh. my sister and i watched about 50 people come across this $20 bill stuck to a seat, and they all thought about it, extended a hand, but in the end, just let it stay there. it was hilarious.
but if its your first trip to new york, learn how to walk at 3 to 4 times your normal speed, and practice looking up and gawking at things without slowing stopping or running into people. they hate that alot. and i do it all the time and get yelled at
have fun. oh... and theres a free porn channel there on their basic cable... just warning you.
if you're going to be there awhile, my sis is there, and although raised jewish and a confirmed athiest, will be more than happy to perform a rescue or intervention if necessary. if you like i can give you her number in case you find yourself in an s&m dungeon in the back of a drug store, and arent sure how to get out. but if i recall thats in greenwich village so you should be good.
but you should have a blast, and i'm familiar with urban harvest and while you'll probably lose half your body weight in sweat, its good work.

Yeah everyone whos been says its like stepping off the subway in a third world country. I haven't been to New York so it should be quite an experience. Thanks for the saving offer. Its a very organized team, and we're sticking together. If I do get stuck in an s&m dungeon I will be sure to share the story with all of you. darkbagpiper is going as well and he's been to NY.

See I've been to Chicago numerous times, but it's so nice. People seem to be still be generally friendly there.
