Hello amanda! Not really a YOG break it's holidays all the way till 23rd October till (Let me correct) We, embark on the last semester of school term! You're making me jealous of that lens! I'm more or less stuck with a decision of getting a d700 and a 70-200mm lens, probably damage done would be about 8k sgd for both body and lens (Appx) that's if I have enough cash by the end of October or hopefully December if I don't go anywhere in between but it's quite impossible because I should be going Syd or France in Oct.
If I over spend or there's insufficient funds I can then just get a 8-16mm f4.5 first for my d80 body to cover landscape photography or wide angle lens (And I wished I had it with me for MBS Sky Park to capture the whole image) So filled with regret! And your lens is really good for a start! Which is almost the same as 70-200 nikon.
I love huge bags because I can put all my photography stuff inside, lens, bag, pen cleaner etc. I'm pretty girly in some ways but then again when it comes to doing things that I love I don't mind carrying a tripod around even. There's one I used to read "Digital SLR Photography" not so bad, then when I started to use edits I read up more on Lightroom and Aperture 3 kind of magazines (Stood at Page One to select) So awesome dear.
Wow, how much is the d700 actually? The 70-200 is a really really good lens and I've considered (the f/4) before, but that's an L glass and it's really over my budget. Are you intending to sell your current body? Cos' that might lessen the total cost. Wow Syd/France - I wanna go to both places! Might be going to Syd next midyear. Enjoy your trip if you do go!
I think the 8-16mm would be a good choice for an APS-C camera; imagine how wide it would be when you go ff! There's never enough lens we wanna get really, for the different situations we're in. Sometimes I want a super telephoto zoom, sometimes an ultra wide angle... I can totally understand how you felt when you were there. Thanks :) and yeap, I guess they're all good, just depending on what type of photography you venture into. :)
Agreed! I even bought a small book to put in the bag to read when I'm bored or to clear some doubts. :p Do you use your tripod/bring it out often? Mine's really heavy so it's a little of a hassle to bring it out. Thanks for the intro, I'll look it up sometime! I'm planning on ditching my PC and getting a MacBook (Pro) soon so that it's easier to organise/edit my photos using Mac. Did you buy those programmes?
d700 for new body should be appx 3.5k, and I don't think I'd sell my d80 body. Might be passing it to my sis or my boyfriend :) They quite like it anyway. Yes it's a good lens and very expensive as well! Both places are awesome, but they're tentative plans only, so not confirmed! But more or less I'm quite set on it already.
Yes 8-16 would be good, for our 1.6x crop factor that's pretty ok for wide angle, probably one of the few lowest we could go. But with an FF it'll look mighty awesome, not the best view in Singapore but I'm sure like I said how travelling comes into place, very awesome sights. We'll never have enough, might want the whole collection and different kind of stuff that we'd like to take. That all depends though!
Yes I bring it out often and places I wouldn't have to carry it around like trekking but if trekking in NZ I'll definitely lug it along for some HDR shots :) Yes get a MBP, I feel bad coercing you to, cause I own an imac and a mbp, so that's why. Yup and I purchase those programmes. Lightroom 3 is about 1.8k, Aperture 3 I'm not sure how much they're retailing in Apple stores.
3.5k is a good price for an FF. :) Indeed it's one of the widest lens I've come across and Singapore isn't particularly a very scenic place. Why not get the d700 with the UWA instead, since you seem more inclined towards landscape photography? I'm really envious you get to travel with such a great cam/lens. I hope I would be able to do that soon. :) I'm also intending to do/try a set of HDR shots in the next few months, but I think it'd be even better if the HDR's a landscape shot. I'd be looking out for your HDRs on flickr!
Wow I admire the passion you have in whatever you do, you seem to go all out on everything despite the cost. So do you shoot all your photos in RAW? & nope, I don't think of it as coerce, it's more of an encouragement because I've more or less made up my mind, haha! :j I think Aperture can be pre-installed (approx $300 I guess?). Since you're using a Mac, could I ask if it would be better to have iWork or Microsoft Office installed or both if you're using it for school work?
Because that's mid-range FF, I was crazier when I wanted d3x, appx 9-10k sgd. Yes one of the widest lens on FF, really good, but you pay for what you get! No I don't often get the chance to travel, but it's what I love to do and it's not something that we should stop ourselves from doing. You could try! It's pretty fun and really addictive. I'll be sure to upload them soon :)
Not really, but maybe because I used to be from Sports School Netball, so the passion thing is in me now, and yes I like it alot.Yup Raw + Fine. It's a little repetitive but once you're used to it that's fine. Yup you can get it pre-installed but when I got my mac they don't have it yet, so I had to purchase it. And I don't use it for school work cause I'm doing programming, which works better on windows. So it's kinda separate, for my macs they're all running on iWork which for me works better (Aesthetically), but for school I'm not too sure. No harm installing it right. I like to do presentation slides on iWork better.
As long as it is an FF, there'd be no crop factor and that'd standardize things, so I think that's good already. You could work towards the d3x (or its successor in future) when you feel you really need such an expensive cam! I've seen a lot of good photographers use mid-entry level cams and are able to achieve good shots as well. I guess it boils down to the photographer himself/processing/lens used. I'm thinking of going FF for my next cam upgrade but I guess it's not a need, so I'll settle with a 7D - that's about the price of the d700 and it's not even full frame so that kinda sucks /: (I wished I'd made an informed decision before buying my first DSLR haha!) But yeah, what "type" of photography are you looking at if you got the 70-200 instead?
Oh, you were from Sports School as well? (Thought you were from St Nicks throughout). Yeap after reading up a bit in the past few days, I think I'm going RAW soon too, because I'm also starting to learn a bit of digital processing. I'm actually quite lazy to process all my photos, it's such a tedious process especially if you're like me. I spam shots. Haha. Yeap I've heard a lot about Keynote and I think I'll prefer it to Microsoft actually, thanks for your input! :)
