Satrday morning I asked the beautiful Crystal Clark to marry me and she said she would!
Needless to say I am quite excited. Crystal is the love of my life and I know that God has put us together for a reason.
I got the ring the day before. It was an antique from my grandmother, and I think it's very pretty. It has a wider-size gold band with a lovely diamond set at a medium height. I can't tell my grandparents enough how much I appreciate them giving such a beautiful ring to us.
My sister Amanda helped me a lot, too. I really wanted to do something unique for when I asked her, and I wanted it to be something fun and interesting. I asked Amanda to make some paintings for me: a picture of a Cricket(that's her nickname), a picture of my brother william, a picture of a female sheep, and a picture of Mary (as in Mary and Joseph).
So you can figure out how that sequence works.
On the day that I got the ring, we hung them in the hallway at my grandparents' house, that being Amanda's sort of private gallery. Amanda did a great job and I liked the pictures a lot. Everyone is fighting now over the one of Will, and that only because it is such a great likeness.
Friday night Crystal finally arrived with my sister Cynda, and we talked about plans for saturday. They talked about going to Grandma's house just to visit, and I almost got excluded from the trip. ;)
On our way there Saturday morning, I sat in the back of the car with Crystal and we talked about random things and visiting with Grandma and Grandpa. Honestly I don't remember much of that because I was still going over my plan in my mind and hoping that things would work out. It's extremely difficult for me to surprise Crystal with anything because she knows me so well. I'm as transparent as the vacuum of space to her.
Well when we got there Grandma gave me a hug and tried to take my jacket. She knew what was going on, but she didn't realize I had the ring in my jacket pocket... anyway, I finally convinced her (no Grandma, (wink) really I'm FINE) to let me keep it.
I told Crystal that Amanda had some new paintings and asked her if she'd ever been in the stairs hallway to see Amanda's gallery. Of course she had but she didn't mind going and looking again. ;)
So we went up the stairs and when we came back down she gave Grandma a big hug and told everyone we were engaged. We all sat down and played cards, then. Crystal and I were both in a state of shock, though, and it was all I could do to keep playing when it was my turn. I couldn't stop smiling and when I tried, the corners of my mouth kept twitching.
I think she was surprised, at least a little, because I had indicated to her that I would probably wait until Thanksgiving or Christmas before I would be able to ask her to marry me. I was so glad things worked out because I don't know if I could have waited that long without imploding on myself...
I had talked to her parents the Thursday before, and they had given me their permission and their blessing, although I hadn't told them when I would actually ask their daughter.
If you've paid close attention and have been reading all of my entries you'll no doubt realize that my last blog entry is bogus as I didn't actually spend the day with Foster and Janet, although they were collaborating with me on the story.
Still don't have a date set for the wedding, but the details are already starting to work themselves out, and I expect it won't be long. If you want to see pictures,
check out Cricket's side of the story.
