If I'm in a first draft (which is the hardest part for me) I won't feel completely rested until it's finished. I'll take time off now and then in the middle to think (or just run away) but I know I won't be happy again until I at least have a completed rough draft.
My real problem lately is energy. I get home from work, make dinner, maybe watch a film or a few episodes of a drama, scan LJ and then I'm too tuckered out to work. The best system I had was back while working retail; they cut my hours to 32 so I insisted they be over 4 days and not 5 (I had a job in the company no one else wanted, so it was a big point in my favor). My schedule wound up like this: 4 days of work, 2 days of writing, 1 day of recreation.
I need to find a way to make writing time a real and seperate part of my day to day life. I'm having trouble integrating things right now.
Oh, by the by, bad French Resistance fan fiction? Sounds fanfictiontastic! I'm just so relieved to meet someone else who has fannish feelings towards it. I've met some other enthusiasts on-line, but only a couple of people who squee the way we do. You should hear some of the French Resistance podcasts I write in my head while at work (or, better yet, you shouldn't hear them). Very fannish. Though it'd be worth the humiliation just to write and perform "Henri Frenay: WTF?"
(But we'll never have anything on the 1776 group here on LJ. Now those ladies know how to mix their enthusiasms!)
I know what you mean about having a draft. I have a condensed version, but it's not the same. I have been interested in all sorts of things over the years, but this "silly novel" has stayed with me since high school. I don't think I'll get rid of it until I finish it. I have only really been serious about it over the last four years or so.
Luckily I have things that remind me to write, like a big billboard that says "LUMIERE" on my way to work or the "119 - MAX" license plate I saw once on the car in front of me.
I have the same problem with energy. It's soooooooooo hard to do anything after work. I'm just too tired. Ugh. I veg in front of my laptop.
OMG."Henri Frenay: WTF?" I would lurve to hear that.
I'm surprised that there is even one other person who is into this stuff. It's a rare interest, especially in this country. However, there is a Maquis reenactment group in Texas. ;) I was also surprised to find the Facebook group.
I should join the 1776 group. In fact, if I were the Emily Gilmore type I would join the DAR because I have an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War. He was supposedly in the Battle of Cowpens. He was also court-marshaled for not showing up to a muster (but was later found innocent as he had a good excuse) :)
