[RP log] With Hervey = 01 =

Who: Lucas (beats_up_crabs) & Hervey (foxy_hervey)
Where: In the infirmary
When: January 15th, IS 481. After this thread where Lucas successfully gets Hervey to the infirmary.
What: How to treat fractured ribs for dummies.

Lucas: *really doesn't understand how people (i.e. Belcoot & Hervey) think they're man enough to carry on with their everyday activities with injuries. Though, Belcoot at least gave his word he would come in for a check-up... unlike the current imbecile pirate here. As the pair arrive, and knowing Dr. Mathiu has other patients to attend to, he points Hervey to a low stool* Sit.

Hervey: R-right. *he's kind of worried about what Lucas is going to do to him if he doesn't listen, so -- grudgingly, of course -- he sits down in the stool, sighing some as he feels a sharp bit of pain in his chest from his movement* Y-you know, this isn't really necessary...

Lucas: *wouldn't do anything Hervey couldn't survive. Of course, it would be trouble to put the man into bed arrest, but surely he can find someone with a wind rune to force Hervey to stay put if the need comes up* Shirt off.

Hervey: *blinks -- Lucas just ignored him! He decides to just take the damn shirt off, frowning a bit* I mean, I'm sure I'm absolutely fi -- *he stops mid-sentence as, when his shirt's off, he notices this really ugly looking purplish-green bruise on his left side, just along his lower ribs* ... ... oh... oh, heh... wow!

Lucas: *doesn't like how ugly that bruise is and looks even more displeased that his idiot ex-comrade thought he was dandy despite it* ... Stay still. *while he may not be an expert the way Budehuc's doctor is, the young medic does remember enough first-aid to know what must be done as he undoes the very badly done wrapping, hands careful even while his expression is dark* How long were you expecting to walk around without getting this checked?

Hervey: Heh... the whole time? *he whistles and looks very, very sheepish, rubbing the back of his neck* I mean... heh, hell, didn't look that bad when I did it. And, I mean, I guess it must've come loose when I was... walkin'... 'round... *he tries to make light of the whole thing, taking care to try and keep perfectly still*

Lucas: Your rib or the bandage? *soon enough, he gets the whole length of the wrapping off Hervey, getting a better view of just how bad the injury is. With such huge bruising in his sight, he wonders if he should even bother Kindness Drop the man for going about like this* This will hurt. *that is his only warning as he manually checks if any of the ribs are cracked and/or displaced*

Hervey: Huh -- shit!! *he really can't help but hiss in pain as his wound's suddenly being touched -- he's refraining from cussing like a sailor here* D-dammit, give me a heads-up if you do that kind of thing! *he's wincing now, one fist clenched tightly* ... and I meant both.

Lucas: I did. *though he knows he only gave the pirate a split second to register his words, he is at least trying to treat the injury, not aggravate it. Assessing the state of Hervey's injury, it seems that the bone is merely cracked, not broken or displaced. His expression does not change much, though there seems to be less tension* ...you're lucky that this requires only a Kindness Drop. If your injury had been worse, I wouldn't be able to heal you without leaving it crooked.

Hervey: So, it'll be fine straight away? *he looks really hopeful and turns to look at Lucas, a nervous grin on his face* I mean, that sounds pretty good to me. You said I'm lucky, right? *and now he's just kind of babbling because he's being so hopeful, and he's kinda' relieved Lucas looks less tense now*

Lucas: *deadpan* Only because you're getting treated now. *except, the best way to learn to be careful and do that is to suffer the injury for a while*

Hervey: So... heh, I won't be fine straight away? *kinda' loses his enthusiasm and looks a little concerned*

Lucas: *Such confidence Hervey has toward his former leader's skills. This isn't helping his self-esteem either and his face goes blank to better cover that feeling.* You'll be fine. *straightens up and concentrates on casting that one spell on the pirate*

Hervey: *he stays absolutely still to avoid any mishaps, closing his eyes during the process and waiting* ... Well, I'm trusting your word on it... *he feels a sort of cold, liquid sensation in his side, and can't help but shiver a bit during the spell as it seems to flow through him -- he sighs in relief*

Lucas: *remains focused until he's sure the bruising--which gradually went from purple-green to brown--is completely gone. When that is done, the youth steps back, seemingly so Hervey can stand up without having him in the way, but really to regain his own personal space* How does it feel now?

Hervey: *he pauses for a moment, and then hesitantly stretches both his arms, smiling in satisfaction when there's only a lighter, dull pain now -- it shouldn't be a hindrance in battles, at least* It's good -- doesn't hurt as much as before.

Lucas: *well... at least this should keep the man from getting himself injured again* Do you need wrapping for that?

Hervey: *he moves his arm just a little more, to test -- there's no sharp pain, but the ache is still there* ... Reckon' the wrapping will help any? I mean, it's so... internal. *he genuinely looks confused*

Lucas: Just checking. *he simply takes the forgotten wrapping to properly dispose of while Hervey runs performance check. Why his comrades think they're going to be fine without attending to the source of their problem is beyond his understanding*

Hervey: *he's massaging the area where he was injured now, still checking it out to make absolute sure it's alright, since he's in the infirmary* ... Man, I didn't think Yuber'd be that heavy. Y'know?

Lucas: No, I don't. *wrappings disposed of, he goes back to performing his routine around the infirmary, preparing cayenne tea for Kidd and checking up on the unconscious commander of the guards. Almost as if there were no Hervey there. The man has been tended to and what pain lingers is minimal enough that the pirate isn't yelping during his self-check*

Hervey: *he blinks, standing there awkwardly, just watching Lucas* Uh... Lucas? *he decides to lean against the closest empty bed, unsure of what to do with himself -- and he thinks it'll be awkawrd to just leave after he's been treated and everything* Umm, hey. You still with me?

Lucas: *he is part of the decor where there's no need for anyone to pay attention to him. Still, his voice is quiet again instead of authoritative* The next time you get injured, come straight to the infirmary instead of walking around and making it worse. You'll be unable to help if anything comes up while you're handicapped.

Hervey: ... Yeah, I know. I just -- ... hate asking for help, you know? *he pauses for a sec and glances around the infirmary, taking in all the injuries* ... Thanks for taking care of me, though. I'd probably have just made it worse on my own. *he's really trying to be sincere here, but it's hard when Lucas isn't paying attention to him*

Lucas: Mm.. *he actually doesn't think he's ever spent enough time around the pirate to know that he hates that, although it is easy enough to guess after one's spoken to the man. Especially when Luserina doesn't succeed at getting the pirate into the infirmary on her own* You're welcome. *aware that the avoidance is rude despite it being so ingrained into him, it takes him a moment of smoothing Cecile's covers before he pauses long enough to look at Hervey, speaking another advice* If you plan on training in the next few days, don't overdo it. *after all, it would be idiotic not to be careful while getting ready to protect the castle and its inhabitants*

Hervey: Yeah. Yeah, I know. *another pause, and he makes sure to try and maintain eye contact with Lucas* -- hey, you said you wanted to be my sparring partner sometime, right? I still wanna' fight you, y'know. I mean, I know you're busy with the infirmary and everythin', but when things cool down. *he's trying to be nice -- usually he just gives up when people ignore him*

Lucas: *he knows he has ample spare time to take on Hervey's proposal now if he wished, but with the castle's atmosphere in its current state, the young man is aware that spare time should be used to learn as much from the doctor as he can.* I did. *and he breaks eye contact with Hervey* Since you're helping out with the fighting, make sure no one else gets injured. Even when the castle will be calm again, casualties still need to be attended to.

Hervey: -- uhhh. *he's not sure how to take something like that, and with the eye contact... well, he just shrugs and decides to look at the stool in front of him instead* I can't promise anything, but I'll definitely try, I s'pose. I mean... heh. Castle full of fighters. *he runs his hand through his hair* ... nothin' I can really do.

Lucas: Just be on the lookout. *careful while attending Kidd since no one (especially not his grumpy coworker) likes to clean blood up* At least four of those fighters were severely injured and if this keeps up, there will be no one left to protect the civilians. *he cannot be both on the frontline and in the infirmary*

Hervey: Don't worry, I'll do my best to assist and keep the more hotheaded guys from chargin' in. *he suddenly laughs, seeing how ironic that is* Oh man, you know what you're asking of me, right? I am one of those idiots!

Lucas: I know. *does see how much irony there is in his request, but that cannot be helped* Hopefully, it'll help you curb your own tendencies.

Hervey: ... You know I ain't good at holdin' back, right? *he glances up at the ceiling for a second, sighing -- he sure as hell doesn't know what to say to the kid* Though we haven't talked much, have we?

Lucas: *considering how everyone had to tend to their own duties, that was self-evident too* I haven't spoken much to anyone on the Dauntless. *after all, they needed him to take care of running and leading the army. That meant strategy meetings with Elenor, reinforcing their ship with Tov's help, recruitment around the island... People may have stopped him every once in a while to speak to him or ask him for some favours, but he obviously spent a lot of time working for their army when even his friends were worrying about him*

Hervey: .... *he resists the urge to sigh again and begins absently running his fingers along the end of the bed he's half-leaning, half-sitting against* Yeah, guess you're right. Strange that, since everyone trusted you so much. *he decides to just continue watching Lucas, a little boredly*

Lucas: *done with checking up on the diminutive detective, he moves away from Kidd's bed and back to Cecile's, sitting down next to the girl* Didn't you follow Kika's orders? *he had to question the pirate's idea of trust. After all, he didn't think people like Jango and Breck truly trust him when they obviously joined their crew only for a share of the glory*

Hervey: Yeah, I did. But... she trusted you -- so I did, too, and it looks like I made the right choice in the end. I mean, we all put our life in your hands, kid. *he crosses his arms, still wincing a tad at the dull pain, but he ignores it for the better part*

Lucas: I know. *and he'd thought his duty done when that was over, although he is glad his rune hasn't gone to anybody else. All this reminiscing matters little however as he catches that wince* Hervey... Healed or not, perhaps you should get some rest.

Hervey: Huh? ... *he pauses, and hesitates, still looking like he feels awkward* ... Yeah. Yeah, alright. *he pushes himself off the bed* I guess... thanks for that healing. You did a good job. *uncrosses his arms*

Lucas: You're welcome... *they weren't buddies or friends as Hervey had joined only because the Pirate Queen did and he'd lead their army into war against Kooluk. And so, the awkwardness seems rather normal to him even if he knows the man probably doesn't find it comfortable. However, much as he wanted to go back to his time's Obel without having to worry about relationships made here, unless he found a way to do so, he knew that it was only practical to stay on the good side of those who'd known him, even briefly, in the past. Especially since they were all stuck together here* Hervey?

Hervey: *he's turning to the door to leave, totally relieved that he's getting the chance to leave the awkward conversation behind... until Lucas calls his name. He blinks and glances at the kid, wondering what the heck could be up -- he's pretty sure he doesn't have any other injuries* ... Yeah? What's up?

Lucas: *after all the well-meant nagging, he wasn't so sure this would be taken well either, but it didn't hurt to try, did it? There is still a hesitant pause before he speaks* ... Try not to get badly injured anymore. I won't train with you if you have any disabilities.

Hervey: ... Heh. *he grins, actually looking pretty amused and engaged again* Is that some kinda' way to motivate me t'stay injury-free? *his left hand's massaging his right wrist now, just from mention of fighting*

Lucas: *was it? Perhaps it is, but if it does the trick, then who is he to decide on another method?* If it works. I can't cast as many spells in a day as Maxine or Roget could. *and neither were water-rune users*

Hervey: I heard Viki has a Water Rune. *he winks, letting go of his wrist and shrugging* Anyway, it's not like I like being ripped apart, y'know?

Lucas: Mm... *he highly doubts anyone likes being injured* Then I won't expect to see you here unless you're visiting the others.

Hervey: Well, you're always stuck in here, aren'tcha'? How 'bout I visit you sometime, if you're bored? *he's a little hesitant about this offer, but he figures it can't hurt too much*

Lucas: *while he has spent a lot of time here lately, but he isn't 'stuck' in the infirmary* That's fine with me, but I'm not always here. I do have to take care of Miss Cecile's dogs too.

Hervey: ... Her dogs, huh? You mean, the little ones? That have bandanas? *looks surprised -- definitely didn't expect Lucas to be taking care of dogs, too* Looks like you're takin' care of everything 'round here.

Lucas: *doesn't think he does that and seems somewhat embarrassed...* She asked me to a while back. *and now that the young girl was incapacitated, that request of hers was even more important to uphold. Surely, she would be saddened if any of them were neglected*

Hervey: ... Yeah, I can see the girl saying that. She really cares about them. *and then he figures he should probably take advantage of this moment to ask* ... Well, how is she now, anyway?

Lucas: ... *for an instant, he looks at the commander of the guards who's bedside he was seated next to* Stable for now. She hasn't woken up yet. *obviously enough*

Hervey: ... I see. Heh... that bites. *he actually looks really upset about this, and looks from Cecile's bed to the ground, trying to cover up his frustration* Well... good to know she's stable, I guess. Tch. *and he runs a hand through his hair again in agitation, then glances at the door again* ... Anyway, staying here's not going to help matters any.

Lucas: Mm... You do need to get some rest. *hasn't forgotten about that*

Hervey: ... Yeah. You take care in here, huh? I'll come by sometime, whether I want to or not. *he shrugs a little, turning to leave again* Thanks again.

Lucas: See you later, Hervey. *watches the pirate leave before he goes back to caring for the infirmary's two patients... at least until Dr. Mathiu or his colleagues come to take over*
