[Background]

There is a special school in Death City, Nevada, known as Death Weapon Meister Academy (Shibusen). The God of Death himself is the headmaster, who oversees the training of human Meisters and their Weapon Partners. As creepy as it sounds, the purpose of the DWMA is actually to protect, keeping good humans souls from being eaten and to keep evil humans from turning into a Kishin. Of course, there's also witches to fight and Death Scythes to create, but preventing the rebirth of a Kishin is at the core of what they do.

Soul was born with both talent and money. But despite his own skill at playing the piano, he grew up feeling inferior to his older brother who was a genius violinist. Discovering that he was a Demon Weapon offered him an escape he gladly took.

That's where he met Maka, where she found him playing the piano. The tune was dark and strange and he told her, "This is the kind of person I am." It had an effect on her, and the two became partners, moving into domestic bliss an apartment together.

Together they worked towards the 99 evil human souls and 1 witch soul that was needed to turn Soul into a Death Scythe. And together they went after the witch Blair...at least they thought she was a witch. It turns out she was just a cat with a lot of magic. By making this mistake, they were forced to start the process all over. Because of this, they're given a little extra assignment -- namely, Dr. Franken Stein. It was something of a pop quiz, as neither knew that the battle with the insanely powerful former Meister was in fact, just a test. But it was one that they passed.

Maka and Soul were later sent to Italy on an assignment to hunt down an evil human soul. Their mission was complete until Maka sensed a strange situation, one where a bunch of human souls suddenly vanished in the presence of what she thought was a Meister and a Weapon. They discovered a strange young individual inside...Crona, one who had a Weapon on the inside and whose blood was black. (That was the story, anyway.)

Soul was badly injured in the fight that followed, when he left his Weapon form to protect Maka from Crona and the demon sword Ragnarok. More than just a scar was left behind, however. It was then that he too was infected with the Black Blood which in turn led to the creation of the Black Room and Little Ogre.

Back at the school, Soul has a strange, disturbing dream while he's recovering, one where he's tearing out of Maka's stomach. He confided in the school nurse -- Medusa. Medusa who just happened to be a witch, and Crona's mother, and up to no good. When he and Maka are sent to London and face the werewolf Immortal Free, she becomes obsessed with getting stronger, which only does more harm than good. The two finally reach an understanding, one where Maka decides to get stronger with soul, and Soul faces the Black Blood. He's able to keep from falling into madness, while the Black Blood enters Maka's bloodstream through Soul Resonance. Despite the many bumps in the road, including Soul grabbing hold of Maka when she takes a dive off the bridge, they complete their mission.

By this point, they definitely deserved to cut loose and have some fun at the DWMA's founding party, but Soul isn't big on things like that. Probably a good thing since it ended up ruined by Medusa, who traps everyone inside in an attempt to free Asura, the first Kishin who's sealed underneath the school. A lucky few do manage to escape with Sid the Zombie's help...Maka and Soul among them. Though the plan was for them to keep going, Maka makes the decision to switch places with Black☆Star and Tsubaki when they come across Crona again. Maka, it seems, still carries a grudge. It seemed like a good idea at the time, until they start losing horribly.

Soul is constantly being tempted by Little Ogre, but the final straw is when Maka herself appears inside the Black Room, something she was able to do through their Soul Resonance. They dance there, while Maka explains that she needs to sense Crona's Soul Wavelength -- but in order to do that, she needs to fall into the same kind of crazy that Crona suffers from...or enjoys, it's hard to tell. This is possible through the Black Blood inside of Soul. Soul reluctantly agrees, but only because he vows to pull her back out, one way or another.

The fight becomes literally insane and Maka is finally able to hold her own...a little unwell, but still. Meanwhile Maka aligns her Soul Wavelength with Crona's, able to reach the other and come to an understanding, defeating the enemy by making them a friend. Once Maka's sanity has returned, Soul is able to leave the Room and Little Ogre behind.

Unfortunately everyone else wasn't as successful. Asura has escaped, and madness becomes a force to be reckoned with in the world.

Thinking Medusa dead, the Kishin seems to be their biggest problem. But another one soon arises - the witch Arachne is revived, thanks in no small part to a golem maker and chainsaw Weapon named Giriko. Soul's thoughts seem to mirror Maka's from the past, as he wishes he were a stronger weapon who could do more to protect his Meister. The two resulting sides race each other to reach an item called BREW that's hidden inside a magnetic field in the arctic. Even with a Chain Resonance that uses sound (Soul playing the piano inside his...well, soul) between Kid, Black Star, Maka and respective Weapons, they're not successful. As if that weren't enough, suddenly doubts arise about Maka's new friend(?) Crona and the reappearance of Medusa, just in a smaller body -- Medusa Lite, whom the Academy strikes a deal with.

All things considered, there's plenty to be conflicted about, even with the daunting mission of infiltrating Arachne's base ahead of them. They do have Medusa's help, but...really, they should've known better. Arachne has abandoned her body and everyone is suffering from madness. But through a combination of Arachne's webs, Soul's "piano" playing and Maka's Anti-Demon Wavelength, things finally go their way -- at least until Medusa slips into Arachne's skin and takes off. And then there's Death the Kid's kidnapping and trouble with Eibon, or more correctly, Noah with Eibon's book, brewing (no pun intended).

On the brighter side of things, Soul finally does become a Death Scythe, they become leaders of the elite Spartoi squad and they learn how to fly.

[Personality]

The first impression that Soul wants to make is that of a cool guy. At the most basic level, he divides the world into that which he deems 'cool' and 'not cool'. He has a laid-back attitude about most things, which leads him to do things like attempting to cheat on exams rather than study. He can lose his cool from time to time and be a bit hot-headed. And he's not a complete idiot either, and seems to have a deep appreciation for music and architecture. Despite a vast knowledge of music, he's still self-conscious about his own talent with the piano.

One of the few things he does take seriously are the battles that he and his partner, Maka, take on. Soul shows surprising focus during a fight, becoming the level-headed voice in Maka's ear as well as the one who keeps them both from slipping into insanity. Maka can see souls, but Soul also possesses an insight that allows him to see situations -- and people -- for what they are. He is a loyal partner, but a fiercely protective one as well. For all his day-to-day nonchalance, Soul's willingness to die for his Meister is probably the coolest thing about him.

Soul has the ability to be a great friend, but he also struggles with a fear of getting close to others that makes him a bit standoffish most of the time. Calm, collected, and cold. Stein described him as having a cynical, rebellious soul. He's not the life of the party, he's the guy standing out on the balcony. He keeps a lot to himself, wearing his 'cool' demeanor the way one would wear a mask. Despite this, he's always received a lot of partner request letters, especially after becoming a Death Scythe. Of course, that mask can be broken by a voluptious naked lady. Likewise, that can lead to his neck getting broken by Maka.

Soul does have a very strong bond with his Meister. Though they may bump heads from time to time, it's obvious that they have a great deal of trust in one another, to the point where Maka often allows Soul to take the lead. She is his friend as well as his partner and someone that he wants to get stronger for. Fortunately he shows great promise in maturing and doing just that.

[Specialties/Abilities]

Soul is a Demon Weapon, a human who can turn into a weapon and back again. He takes the form of a scythe, though he can also partially transform, turning just his arm into the blade. He can also brawl, evidenced when he takes down a street gang without much trouble. It's important to note that's pretty much all he can do on his own. To utilize his full potential, Soul requires a Meister -- namely Maka Albarn. If his soul wavelength doesn't match up with whoever is trying to wield him, chances are they won't be able to. After becoming a Death Scythe, he can change the length of his blade as well forming wings for flight when resonating with Maka's Grigori Soul.

Through Soul Resonance, Soul and Maka can synchronize the wavelengths of their souls, making them more powerful as a team. It's described as playing an electric guitar -- and then plugging that guitar into an amp. He can also sense souls when resonating with her, though he hears the wavelengths rather than sees them. The traditional attack that sycthemeisters create with Soul Resonance is known as Witch Hunter, an attack that changes the shape of the scythe into a crescent moon and also gives it purifying qualities, which are more effective against certain opponents.

Soul was infected with Black Blood when he was slashed by Ragnarok during their battle with Crona. It causes the Black Room to appear in his soul, complete with the devilish Little Ogre. The Little Ogre tries to tempt Soul into taking advantage of the Black Blood, promising great strength but at the risk of his sanity and possibly Maka's as well. At first, Soul resists, but by sharing Maka's Anti-Demon Wavelength, Soul is able to tap the strength of the Black Blood without slipping into madness. Even so, calling on the Black Blood is more of a last resort.

There is also a piano within the Black Room, which Soul can play and create Resonance links with others. This makes every person that's resonating with him stronger, faster, or even the opposite, all according to how he plays. But to play for too long again risks insanity. To prevent this, he must decide when the concert is over.

[Affection]

Soul isn't the most affectionate guy in the world. Naked women = instant nosebleed. But he's not uncaring.

[Fighting]

Fighting is something he's used to, everything from serial killers turned monsters, to street gangs. Fighting and injury are always a possibility.

[Other Permissions]

Mind reading is fine! Character death depends on the circumstances, but I'm always open for plotting, compromise, etc. :)

[Other Facts] Nothing atm!
