No! Not Gnaw Bone. New Albany!

Thursday, September 14 @ 7pm
Destinations Booksellers (604 E. Spring St., New Albany, IN)

Small but pretty packed room. This apparently the first book store in NA in about 60 years, and it seems to be a hit with the locals.

First up was Darrell Wayne Harris Sr. and he was good, but didn't read much poetry in the 20 minutes he was in front of the audience. Let that sink in for a minute....

Actually the first guy to read was a somewhat egotistical sci-fi writer, who was good but really woke up when he had an opportunity to talk about himself. Apparently his erotic speculative fiction is a hit with the furry crowd. I made the mistake of telling him I liked his stuff after the reading and he never let me hear the end of it. Ah well.

Sheri Wright was the last poet of the evening, and I liked what she was doing. Very earthy and a bit folksy, but literate and focused. Kinda reminded me of Glenda Breeden with an MFA. You couldn't tell AT ALL that this was her first-ever public reading. I'd like to hear her again when she's a bit more comfortable.

Set list:
Stats
Sparrow's Dream
Byproduct of Divorce #87: The Laundromat
Radnoti's Wife
Photogenic
Crit
War Effort
Cicada Blues

I also did "The Devil Is My Prey" with Joe during his set. Seems like I'm now starting and ending with "hits" and filling up the middle with newer stuff. Me likey.

This just now occurred to me: I'm going to suggest that on this leg of the tour, Joe ad I do a mash-up of "Sha Clack Clack" by Saul Williams and "Let the Eagle Soar" by John Ashcroft. I think the world is ready.

Books were sold, elbows were rubbed, babies were winked at but not kissed.

Friday, September 29 @ 8pm
