me
name/nickname: Em
age: 35
astrological sign: cancer
hobbies and interests: writing, editing, reading, movie/tv watching, hockey (New York Rangers & Tampa Bay Lightning), sometimes knitting, coming up with Projects™
tv/movies/books: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Stargate SG-1, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel Cinematic Universe (movies & TV), DC TV Universe, Firefly, Angel, Farscape, and a ridiculous number of others; some of my favorite movies include Shakespeare in Love, Dark City, and anything by Alfred Hitchcock
music: My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Abney Park, The Cog Is Dead, wizard rock

just for fun
chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry: chocolate
if you could pursue any hobby or career without fear of failure, what would you do: WRITE
what's in your purse/backpack: wallet, pens, pencil, permanet marker, notebook, hair tie, hair brush, business cards, breath mints, Tide pen, wet wipes, hand-sanitizer, emergency medication.... basically, I'm still an over-prepared Girl Scout.
what would you be most likely to get arrested for: Excitement in a library

journal
post topics: Writing, reading, and my life; infrequent fandom-related posts (it's mostly writing/reading at the moment because I'm finishing a graduate degree in creative writing)
frequency of posts: 3-4 times per week
warnings: I occasionally swear and I talk about writing A LOT. Sometimes I talk about depression in the past tense (I'm doing much better, thanks!).
other tidbits: I run getyourwordsout and fandom_grammar. I'm not kidding about the excessive talking about writing. ;)

friends
age range: 25+ mostly, it's not you, I'm just old.
looking for: (common interests/hobbies, type of posts) Common interests, other writers/artists/readers, people who want to engage
deal breakers: (don't add me if...) Well, you can add me, but you wouldn't see my posts because they're basically all f-locked anyway? But, yeah, we probably won't get along if you are a Trump supporter; racist, homophobe, bigot, and/or misogynist.
comment expectations: Please comment every so often! I like discussions even though a lot of my LJ is currently writing progress posts.

anything else?
STEAMPUNK. I am very into alternate history and the punk sub-genres. The books I write (and read) are most often alt history or science fiction. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the heart of my soul, and I still like Joss Whedon even though he's not perfect. (That's probably actually a warning for some people.)

This LJ is associated with my fandom identify which I keep separate from my pro life. My LJ is almost exclusively Friends Only.

...Dark City, and anything by Alfred Hitchcock...

I am always happy to read if someone remembers and/or likes Dark City... ❤

Dark City is amazing! I remember I saw it either just before or just after The Matrix came out and I was so mad that no one was paying attention to this other extremely amazing, what-is-reality movie. Dark City needs more love.

I know right? If you take its budget into account, it was even a bit better than Matrix, imho. (though you can't compare those movies 100%)

Something which makes me a bit mad is if someone tells me (just after finding out about the movie) that it is a cheap copy of Matrix, then I am always like, "Check the dates these 2 movies were created/released, end of discussion!" :D

You get me.

And I agree you can't exactly compare them, but if someone forced me to choose, Dark City is clearly my child.

We share similar fandoms (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Harry Potter, MCU, DC television, among some others listed in your userinfo). I also share the same sentiment as you regarding Whedon, I still enjoy him and his work while acknowledging his faults.

My journal is mostly dedicated to my fannish interests with some RL (which is f-locked), and I love commenting and striking up conversation.

I always need more Whedonverse people in my life.

Also I noticed you list Deadpool as a current obsession and I didn't express my undying love for that fourth-wall-breaking lunatic here.

We have Buffy, Harry Potter and writing in common, among other things. So I have added.

It looks like we also have many of the same opinions about online privacy. ;) Hi!

We have Buffy and Farscape in common, would it be all right to add you? :)

I see that you're doing an X-Files rewatch, and I sadly neglected to add it to my list here. Hi!!

Hey! And yep, I've just finished season 5 and the movie, and I'm taking a bit of a break now to re-watch Gilmore Girls :D

I did a rewatch earlier this year but skipped the movies since I didn't have easy access to them. I should go back and watch them.
