losing all those stupid games that i swore i'd never play

Today was definitely one of those days that's going to be really, really funny in a year's time or so. You know, one of those experiences that you tell all your college friends about, like, "Aren't I so stupid? Ha ha ha." But right now, it's just frustrating. Vaguely amusing, but still frustrating.
So. Yes. On with the story. So I've been wanting to go to the Warped Tour ever since last summer, when I couldn't go that year because I was at my grandparents' house in New York. But then it looked like it wasn't going to happen, seeing as I was getting home from Vermont the day before the concert this year. But yesterday, Alex (the girl Alex) called and was like, "Hey, wanna go to Warped Tour with me and Mel?" And of course I did, and miracle of miracles, I got my parents to let me go *and* to give me money for tickets because I'm broke. But then I looked for tickets online last night, and it said they were sold out, so I thought, well, that's the end of that. BUT this morning, Alex called my house and asked if I was coming. At first I thought she meant over to her house or something, because I'd left a message on her cell phone telling her they were sold out and asking if she wanted to hang out anyway. But apparently she didn't get the message, because then she said, "Should I wear flip-flops or sneakers? Is it going to be muddy?" So of course I was like, wait, what the hell are you talking about? And then she told me that Mel called Strawberry's (the only other place that sells tickets to the Warped Tour), and they said that they still had tickets. So I got all excited again and we went and met Mel at Strawberry's. And we went in and asked the guy at the desk if they were selling Warped Tour tickets, and he said they didn't sell them after the gates had opened. They'd opened twenty minutes before we got there. Come on, give me a break. But he said they were still selling them at the gates, so we were like, "Alright, we may as well go, it's not like we had anything else to do today." So we drove. And drove. And almost hit about four cars. And drove. And then stopped. In traffic. For five hours. It was interesting people-watching and picking out which cars were going to Warped Tour (the ones full of pierced kids were generally safe bets) and watching people run out of their cars to pee in the woods, but after a while it was just the same cars over. And over. And over again. Not to mention the fact that neither Alex nor I'd eaten at all that day, and Mel had only had breakfast, so we were all dying of hunger and shared an old Tootsie Roll pop Alex found in the glove compartment of her car. And then, here's the clincher. So we're a half-mile away from the exit to get off for Northampton, and the guy on the radio station we were listening to said, "I've just received notice that the Warped Tour is SOLD OUT. So if you were planning on going, you may as well just give up." We all just stared at each other for a second, in a state of total and complete shock. But we decided to keep going anyway, since we were so close, and see if they were really sold out or if it was just close to sold out (we were all basically delirious at this point from sitting down without eating for so long). By that time, it was already 4:00, meaning that there were only four hours left in the concert, but we'd gotten that far already. So Alex dropped Mel and I off at the drop-off point, and we walked up to the ticket counter and didn't even have to ask: there was a huge poster in the window that said "SOLD OUT." So we met back up with Alex and we just drove off. And we went out to Uno's nearby for dinner and walked around the mall it was in.
Basically, we drove five hours for a mall. Death. And then it took all of an hour and a half to drive back. Oy.
Anyways. So now I'm back home, dead exhausted from doing absolutely NOTHING, waiting for Alex (the other Alex) to drop off my video camera/say goodbye before he goes off to college. :-( Though it's not really much of a goodbye, considering that I'm seeing him again in...a week and a half. Or not even. But still.
And Wednesday I'm leaving for Martha's Vineyard, which I did not find out about until last night. And I'll say it again: DEATH. I mean, I love Martha's Vineyard. But I was hoping for more than two days between getting back from Vermont and going out of town again to catch up with people. *sigh*
