It is SO freakin' hot outside. It is definitely July in St. Louis. We were spoiled for awhile with a pretty mild June and early start to July but now the hot and humind weather has come and will probably last until September. Yipee.
All I've done this past week is work and sleep and work and audition for a musical and work and go to choir practice and work...see the trend? I don't think I've had one night this week where I've slept more than 6-7 hours. It sucks. Tomorrow I'm meeting with my job recruiter at 10:00am so I don't even get to sleep in on my day off. But Tuesday I don't work until 5pm so I can get some sleep then. Maybe.
I auditioned for "The Sound of Music" (yes, AGAIN) at the Florissant Civic Center on Wednesday. Callbacks were held the same night and they called me back for Maria. They didn't really have an intensive callback though. I read with one of the potential Captains and sang "Sound of Music" (which I really thought was an odd choice considering it doesn't really have much of an expansive vocal range. Although they did have us sing scales to show off our range). Their goal was to have the cast list figured out this weekend, but I haven't heard anything yet. I would be thrilled but nervous if I got the part of Maria, but with community theatre you just never know. Of the Marias that auditioned, I could only see me and this other girl pull it off because we were the only ones with the vocal range to do it. The other woman's acting was so-so. Not going to say mine was great but I think it was better than hers. She sounded almost too adult for the role, if that makes sense. Maria is supposed to be young and fun. Anyway, it's quite possible that someone else who wasn't even at callbacks will get the part because they were chosen from the beginning and they just humored us with auditions to see if we could play other parts. You never know. But, when I hear something I'll let you know.
No word from the radio station yet. I sent a follow up e-mail yesterday to Tom, the guy doing the hiring and I received an "out of office" e-mail which stated that he was out of the office Monday-Thursday, which means if he was in the office at all on Friday, he didn't even have time to think about taking off his "out of office" notice. So, I'm not surprised that no movement has been made. But, at least I got my follow up e-mail in to keep the conversation going so they continue to know that I am interested. All I can do is wait and see.
Sang at the CSC (Catholic Student Center, FYI) mass at Wash U this morning. There's a new guy in the choir who I hadn't met before who is really cute...but of course, he's like a junior in college and WAY too young. Saw another cute guy in the congregation today and for about a good 10 minutes there I thought he might have been Wrede from DPU, because he looked SO much like him. But, Wrede isn't Catholic and this guy took communion and then I realized it wasn't him, he just had some similar features. Wrede is moving to StL this month or next, so I figured it could have been possible that he was there with family (since he has some family that live in west county and who knows, maybe some of them are Catholic).
After mass a bunch of us went out to lunch at the Macaroni Grill. It was fun times. They are a fun group. On the way back though, we got hit by some idiot. Anne has a little Toyota Echo though and fortunately there wasn't really any damage. This little Asian guy was driving this big van and just slammed into us - TWICE. Apparently he had some issue with his brakes (which sounded like it had been an ongoing thing which is fabulous. If your brakes aren't working, DON'T drive the damn vehicle!).
And, he didn't just hit us. He side swiped another girl too. He had swerved to avoid hitting her, resulting in him hitting us and hitting her. Fabulous. Fortunately we all wore our seat belts and we were all fine except for some minor damage to the vehicles (the other girl's car was worse, he hit the corner so it had some dents and it broke one of the taillights). We had to fill out a police report though and all of that stuff. I know the guy really felt bad, because he was so nervous and apologetic but still, why drive when you know your car has brake problems?
Anyway, that's my exciting news of the day. My parents' friends from Cleveland have been in town this weekend and we've been hanging out a lot. Going to go do some more of that right now.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
