Character name: Daisukenojo "Beat" Biitou
Fandom: The World Ends With You
Timeline: forever later
Age: I think from canon and to as long as I've been playing him... 17?
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Beat's abilities only applicable on the UG, when he's dead, but because of the Drive he can use some of them on the RG. This includes minor telepathy due to his Player Pin (except for anyone else who has a Player Pin), minor levitation (mostly of his skateboard), and vast food consumption. 8)b Aside from that, he's extremely quick and essentially the powerhouse of the group.
PINS:
LEVEL ONE ✘ teleportation/quick blows on all enemies
LEVEL TWO ✘ allies slide on chains across the screen, dealing damage to all enemies
LEVEL THREE ✘ a wave summoned to engulf all enemies
How would they use their abilities?: Probably... not at all.
Appearance:
Beat’s physique for fifteen is ridiculous. He’s known in the canon as a skateboarder, and he’s pretty plain when it comes to his actual design: a white wife beater on top of a red wife beater, khaki, too-big shorts, red and black sneakers, and fucking ugly brownish gray socks. His Fucking Amazing Beanie™ is a textured black, weighted fabric with a giant skull on the brunt of it, that matches the smaller one on his little sister Rhyme’s beanie. Apparently he digs the punkish motif, because his necklace is a huge dark gray skull, his wristband has studs, and he’s got one of those stylish and handy chains from his belt loop to his wallet.
With natural blond hair and blue eyes, it’s clear he’s probably of a descent that isn’t entirely Japanese, but fuck if he can speak another language.
In the end, he’s just a big looking jock that grins a lot.
Background/Personality:Daisukenojo “Beat” Biito had pretty much the atypical dysfunctional family syndrome when he was alive in Shibuya. He fought constantly with his parents, mostly about his low marks in school and how they worried he would never be able to have a solid future; but their idea of his future wasn’t what he wanted. In an angry storm at his parents, he finally ran away from home, shortly thereafter, his sister, Rhyme, following him. It’s on a busy road that Rhyme is hit by a car. To Beat’s horror, he rushes into the road after her in attempts to save her -- but, unfortunately, they were both hit and killed. When the two “awake”, they are in the Reaper’s Game, a seven-day mission challenge that, if won, gives you a second opportunity at life.
Turning even more pain against Beat, he realizes Rhyme has no memories of him. It is later discovered her memories were Beat’s entry fee (the thing he cherished the most), and Rhyme’s was actually her hopes and dreams (which, because she ultimately lost the game, were nonrefundable thus gone forever). Even so, the two form a “pact” -- an agreement between partners that allows them to use pins and access greater power.
The history with his family and even his rocky start with meeting Neku are all just a call to how truly hot-headed Beat is, the polar opposite to the cool and calm main character. He zealously aims straight for his goals, busting down walls with his will and force alone, always full of energy and raring to go in the next fight. Highly confrontational, he usually butts heads with those around him, only appealing to the calmer natures of those who can actually handle him.
His loud-mouthed impulsion usually gets him in trouble, even more accented when he proposes a race (of which only he’s competing in) near the end of the first week. Of course, he wins, but at what price? Two reapers set a trap in the form of a Shark Noise, and -- an ironic twist to has actual death -- Rhyme saves him from being erased (echoing more aaaaangst on his part because she saved him and he couldn’t save her). In a fury, Beat goes to attack the entirely-too-powerful-for-him monsters, in which he is interrupted and saved by Mr. Hanekoma (since, without a partner, you can only live for seven minutes). Taken back to his café and imprinted with how to use the pin Rhyme was turned into, he partners with it, even though he can’t use the pin itself since only reapers can use noise pins.
Knowing he can’t use the pin without being a reaper, he confronts the two reapers who set the trap and learns about Reaper Games, how to become composer (which becomes an aspiration -- to save Rhyme and end the Reaper’s Game), and more about the UG (“underground”, the layer on top of the RG -- “Real Ground” -- supposedly where ghosts and such live).
During the second week, Beat shows that he can be a bad guy, too, surprising everyone. He’s given the mission by the Conductor to defeat Neku and his partner that week, and although he overpowers them several times, he never finish the jobs for various excuses he makes for himself, instead only causing a bunch of trouble. He doesn’t have the heart to do it, not really. During the third week, when Neku’s fee is “the necessity of other players” (therefore not allowing him to make a pact), Beat shows his true honorable colors by thinking that shit is wack and casting off his Reaper status to become Neku’s partner -- DESPITE the fact that would actually leave him eliminated before the seventh day was out for not erasing any players the week before.
Blahblahblah some more spoilers that aren’t really important to his “personality” -- UNTIL, in some of the final moments, Beat takes a blow from the conductor for Neku, leaving his new best friend alive to go on to fight the composer, showing just how selfless he really is for the people he cares about. That’s when he finally tells Neku he’s not his partner anymore, but his friend. Although he winds up not getting his plan of becoming composer, he does get his entry fee back for winning the game, and Rhyme remembers the love she has for him as well as her returned to her original form.
Before the game, Beat was a lot like Neku: not particularly caring about anything and always pushing people away from him to not be pitied (admittedly, something he still occasionally falls back into, thinking he’ll spare others from pain) -- but the events of the Reaper’s Game show him how much he has a heart of gold and how deeply he really can care. He also lies to make Rhyme feel better when she doesn’t have her “dream” back (the aspirations that were her entry fee), and say his dream is to become the world’s greatest skateboarder … even though that’s a lie and he really has no dream of his own.
PS: OH AND HE HAS GANSTA SPEAK. This is very important, yes.
PPS: And because his name translates to big → help → of → help → end → [flower], he is extremely embarrassed about it and freaks out or gets really pissed when you call him it. |: Once again proof that he has large emotional outbursts and is a stubborn twat. I mean, the dude cries like three freaking times.
Why do you want to continue their history here: FROM DISCEDO ✘ I originally brought Beat in from the game Discedo, liking to continue his pre-existing CR and his development as a character: he's learned the value of hard work with his hands, teamwork even more, and has generally been strengthened as a person despite the harsh living conditions there. He still has his scars and his memories of the place, and it makes him cherish even more what he had on Thor and has in Shibuya.
FROM GARGLEBLASTED ✘ Again, continuation of CR is the main priority here. He's still familiar with and remember the Thor and its inhabitants, making it a lot easier to work him into the setting. Besides, his girlfriend's waiting on him!!!!
FROM THE SIF ✘ He showed up during the Sif Event and told a lot of his friends where he had gotten wormholed to so they wouldn't worry about him anymore! He says he's been fighting his way back to the ship... let's finally give him some success, shall we!
Have you read up on how the game works?: ...Do I seriously have to do this every app. WORLD BLEW UP, THOR, GUIDES, EARPLUGFISH, MAKE MONEY WITH MISSIONS, MOOCHING, OR THEFT, PARTY HARD.
