Well, I guess they say a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, so I guess in the literary world this would be that one step, entry number one...
I wonder if you were to ask a complete stranger what's that one thing that keeps them grounded, what will their response be.
These past couple of days have answered that question for me. That one thing is friends. They are the people we can honestly be ourselves around, God knows it's not our parents, certainly not always our romantic interests either. They are the only group of people who truly love you for just that one reason, because of you. I can say that this weekend a friend of mine went through a trying time in his life and for the first time ever, I found myself trully feeling his pain. I was actually on the verge of tears because it hurt me to see him soo distraught. I think thats just it, when you really connect with your friends they are no longer someone you just talk to, or share pankackes with at denny's, or someone who's place you crash at when your drunk, they become a partner in your journey through life. I trully realized that whenever my friends are in trouble then all is lost, I am in trouble with them, what's this journey about if you don't have anyone to share it with, its worthless...
I'm glad I was there for my friend this weekend, I know I am not alone and neither is he. I learned just how much I truly love him (in a non-romantic way) and just how important we both are to each other...
