So...

...I know I promised a post about making Pappa al Pomodoro but I really, for some reason, am simply not in the mood. So I'll just summarize by saying it was a ridiculously easy thing to make, and tasted delicious. We added potatoes into it, and decreased the amount of tomatoes, so it's not as red as it usually is, but it was still awesome.

Doesn't the bread look oddly like chicken? Maybe next time we'll add some chicken in too...

I feel like so much of my experience here in Rome has been the food. It's kind of ridiculous, but true. Yesterday we went to an Indian place in Trastevere and I proactically had a foodgasm...I miss ethnic food so damn much! Italian food is delicious (one of my favorite foods in the world!), but there's only so much one can take after 2 months of only eating pizza, pasta, paninis, and kebabs. When I go to London this Saturday, you can be SURE I will be stuffing my face with Indian and Thai food. Speaking of kebabs, though...here's a doner kebab from a place down the street from Residencia Candia (where I live)

Also, this lack of ethnic food has forced me to learn how to cook some of it on my own. My friend Audrey and I (I linked you guys to her blog before at tumblr) have been trying to make some delicious chinese food on our own--a slight challenge given that there really aren't many readily available ingredients.

The other day we did pretty well though--a while ago to be honest, before I made Pappa al Pomodoro. Audrey has an impressive ability to stumble across useful ingredients (probably because the girl ventures out in Rome by herself all the time...Audrey, where do you find the time to make these excursions?!), so she invited me over to cook because she'd bought some bamboo shoots she wanted to make. We ended up making ground beef and bamboo shoots wiht mushrooms, cucumber tossed with soy sauce and garlic (yum), fried rice and some unidentified fish that we put in the oven. It. Was. Delicious. And more than that, it was super fun to be able to cook a family-style meal again, after so long cooking for just one person.

Delicious delicious foooood! Along with aranciata (:

Audrey and I about to dig in. It was amazing.

There's so much other stuff that I want to make...especially every time that I read Google Reader and see the plethora of recipes that have been updated. But the problem is that not only do I lack the time, but baking is also exceptionally hard here. I don't know why but every batch of cookies that I've tried to make has turned out flat, flat, flat. And although they are just as delicious and chocolately and amazing tasting as they normally are, I hate the shape and the flatness of it. I like thick cookies. Though, to be honest, I'm not big on sweets (like I said, rich foods = no go for me), so I usually give them away...which is why I dislike the flatness. For eating, the flatness is fine. For giving away, the flatness makes the cookies look less cute. ):

Oh well. It's just a bit of a puzzle.

Went to Orvieto and Sperlonga this weekend, one of the first traveling weekends I've had in a long, long time. It was amazing...it was beaches and sun and flowers in my hair. (:
