What's in your SCA basket?

I had fun with the Purse Meme, actually, but I am rather curious about this one.  What do you pack in your SCA basket before heading out for a day event?  In my basket, I typically carry:

- money and SCA Membership cards
- a small thermal bag (that I cover) for keeping water bottles cold
- Cliar Cu Buidhe CDs (Don't leave home without them!)
- current ( Read more... )

I used to have an SCA basket, but Hroar kept saying that there was no room for it in the van, so what I bring tends to be hit and miss now. What I used to have in the basket was:

2 drinking vessals [either goblets or mugs or both]
3 Armentel plates
3 sets of flatware
1 large tablecloth and 4 large napkins [tablecloth can also be used as a mundane stuff coverer.]
1 pair of scissors
Packet of needles and thread
A black snood
A period looking scarf

In my purse, I regularly carry SCA card, money, restaurant gift cards, pens and calligraphy pens, chapstick, comb, sunblock samples, Swiss Army knife and pins, both safety and bobby.

Did you know that you could make a coif out of a white damask dinner napkin?
With a minimum of sewing. And it can revert back to a napkin in case of an emergency.

Take one edge and sew it 1/4 inch to make a casing. Thread a string or a tie through it and tie the ends together and pull on them to get the smallest gathered hole you can get, then knot the tie to hold the gathers together. Place the napkin on your head and turn back the other end until it fits your head without blocking your vision. Crease the napkin to mark that spot. Near the crease, underneath the flap, sew or pin two ties, so that you can tie the coif under your chin. Voila! You now have a coif. If you ever forget to bring a napkin and need one, just remove all the ties and it becomes a napkin again.
