Barev noreets! (Hi again!)
Well, the first crew of Habitat people left late last night. It was sad to see them go, but I guess this just means the next phase of the summer is upon us. We had a nice last dinner together including a birthday cake and vodka watermelon for my cousin's birthday! Our dinner plans at a nice Armenian restaurant were mysteriously cancelled, so we ended up at "Cactoos," a Mexican place on the main drag. Pretty funny to eat fajitas and burritos in Armenia (til you wake up the next morning and feel horrible!).
This morning a few of us got up to go to church in one of the main churches in town - Soorp Sarkis. It was so chaotic and crazy - I really don't like the atmosphere of a lot of the churches here at all. I also wasn't feeling good this morning so I took a taxi home to the apartment (we moved in first thing this morning!) to rest for a bit.
After the crew got back from service we headed to the open air market to have lunch (lahmajoon!!!) and do some shopping. The Vernissage (the market) is a great place, but all of the haggling, the people, the heat, etc. get tiring after a while, which is probably why when we got back to the apartment 5 out of 6 (not me!) fell asleep for a few hours. I unpacked my stuff and feel so much better to finally have all of my stuff out of my suitcases after 2 weeks of moving around.
The main news of the day is that we went to see the traditional dancers tonight at the Opera House. It was fantastic! The costumes, the music, the dancing, everything!!! I am so glad I was able to see something like that while here.
Tomorrow we're heading north to Gumri for the day. It should be interesting - not quite sure what we'll do while we're there but I'll let you know. Aram and Kate Pifer are here til Wednesday morning so it'll be a lot of spending time with them before they leave us!
Hope everything is good with all of you! Missya! - love, sara
