foodie

some of you undountedly know that i am a foodie and a great reader of cookbooks. i am also a more than a fan of julia child, i am a devotee. i've read every julia cookbook many times: thay are crammed with useful information, suggested reading and recipes that work. they are also written with style. i also own the entire original french chef series on dvd and anxiously await the release of julia and company, julia and more company, etc.

the joy of cooking and my mom taught me to cook. julia taught me everything else. be fearless. buy seasonal. talk to your grocer about what you want. try new things. learn tradition, then expand on it. "no apologies, no explanations".

so i went to see "julie and julia" this evening. i have to say that i haven't smiled through an entire movie like that EVER. meryl streep did a fantastic job being julia without being a charicature. she was absolutely charming. it was like having julia back for a couple hours.

i was also unaware of the book "my life in france" and will get a copy as soon as possible.

i came home and took some pork out of the fridge and put it in a marinade of fresh squeezed lime juice and minced garlic with a splash of sherry, added salt, pepper and goodly glop of very nice "grassy" olive oil.

tomorrow i will eat well.
