Goals for class

My response to the reading is one of surprise. I have read the “Survival Kit” before and it was interesting to see how differently I interpreted the book now, post travel, as opposed to when I read it in 2005. The first time I read it, I was pretty ignorant, not to say that I am not still ignorant today, just that what I am ignorant about has just changed. It was really simple to read and I got it done in about an hour, which is nice.

As for my goals in the class, I have one main goal; to become more culturally fluid. I want to be a chameleon when I travel. I know this is pretty much impossible due to my physical appearance, but I want to be able to assimilate and learn from my host culture, wherever that may be. In the past it has been Latin America, but on my next trip in the spring, I am going all by my lonesome to S.E. Asia for two months. I am nervous about the loneliness factor, as I have never traveled alone for that amount of time before. So I suppose another one of my goals is to learn how to deal with the down side of culture shock. I am such a social creature that it scares me a little, what I am doing, but I believe it will be good for me and I am anticipating my trip!

Thanks for reading!
