Artsy people in my Flist currently living in California...

I work for a local power utility and there is an opening for what is basically an Art Director. You have your choice of working in the L.A. area or in San Diego. These jobs are RARE for a public utility. I mean, there's all kinds of cool jobs here which are outside of what one would consider your standard office job, but usually people hold on to them FOR.EV.ER. It's rare for one of these to come up for bid.

My personal experience working here has been pretty much awesome. There's friction and drama, but not more than any other job. They have a killer compesation package, bonuses, medical, 401K, stock options, fitness subsidy and domestic partership benefits as well.

Job Description

Responsible for the management of multiple complex graphic projects. Provide comprehensive co-branding analysis and counsel for an extensive range of customer programs. Support corporate branding initiatives by ensuring compliance with utility identity guidelines, image usage licenses, co-branding policies, and proper usage of trademarks/copyrights. Collaborate with team to manage digital branding systems and develop process improvements as necessary to implement the corporate brand across all mediums. Interface and work with all departments and levels of the organization.

Project/Branding Assessment/Direction. Provides direction to clients and suppliers on branding issues, graphic design, printing, photography, presentation materials and electronic art. *

Project Management (Schedules, Budgets, Quality Control). Responsible for management of multiple complex graphic projects through external resources. Identify, select and manage design, printing and specialty suppliers. Develop and manage major project budget plans, schedules and supplier contracts. Identify and implement processes to enhance the team’s service levels and productivity. Work within a fast-paced team environment to support the department and client groups. Develop integrated communications ensuring compliance with corporate branding policies, affiliate transaction rules, company strategy and policy, legal policy, and regulatory requirements. Manage the development of a variety of printed customer materials through consultation with internal clients and coordination with suppliers. *

Qualifications

Ability to perceive and analyze problems, develop alternatives and recommend sound solutions. Exceptional project management skills. Exceptional business writing skills. Knowledge of the computer graphic design process from pre-press through printing. Working knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Power Point. Basic knowledge of corporate branding issues. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Accuracy and detail-oriented in all phases of project management/reporting. Must be a highly motivated self-starter, able to proactively anticipate and meet the needs of customers. Strong team player with the ability to foster excellent working relationships.

4-6 years working within a graphic design, print buying and customer service environment required. A graphic design background desired. Corporate branding experience desired. Ad agency or related corporate graphics and branding business experience desired. BA Degree or equivalent experience in Graphic Design, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
