firehair28 here. The past few days have been a whirlwind. Mum picked me up at the airport Thursday afternoon and fed me Thai food (yum!). After I was somewhat fortified with non-airline food, we went and surprised Dr. Jim, who did a wonderful double-take (
bearmum hadn't warned him)and we both got the aches beaten out of us for a bit. We met
pentaclemoon and
cruz531 for dinner at Speisekammer, and I actually found a beer I liked - wonder of wonders. Gosh, but Sabre's voice and figure have really changed. She almost seems to float, now. (Mum says: "..and you can see all the lovely bones in her face.")
Friday morning, it was back to the airport to go up to Oregon for the next leg of the journey.
bearmum packed us cheese and homemade bread, and we had overpriced Starbucks coffee from a ubiquitous kiosk to go with it, and we were off on our adventure!
We flew up to Medford, with Mum pointing out geological features from her youth (she grew up here, of course), all the way up, and then a cab ride into Ashland proper, which is about 12 miles away from the airport.
bearmum here now -- we are sharing my LJ since
firehair28 can't remember her passwords (kept in a very secure hash file which is not on her thumb drive). We spotted another Thai restaurant on our way to the hotel, so after getting settled in we had a lovely lunch at Thai Pepper, seated outdoors beside a burbling creek. The Ashland Springs Hotel where we are staying is a lovely place, a boutique hotel with lots of odd nooks. We went to a reception at 5 PM, where all the excellent adventures-to-come were mapped out for us, then to dinner at the hotel restaurant (yum!), and then off to the Elizabethan Theater for the first of 5 plays, "A Comedy of Errors" set in the Old West. It was Hilarious! The director added some songs, there was a honky-tonk piano in the saloon which was the center of most of the action, and all the characters had far more fun than ought to be legal, as did we. Shakespeare's dialog adapted remarkably well to a Texas twang, and the character of the Troubador acted as sort of a narrator/facilitator, a somewhat less sinister version of El Gallo in "The Fantasticks." We wandered back to the hotel in a happy daze, noshed on the lemonade, tea and snacks laid on in the lobby (for free), and fell on our noses close to midnight.
Continental breakfast is complimentary and includes hard-boiled eggs, to my delight. Now we are off for a backstage tour of all 3 theaters, with a very full day to follow (2 plays and dinner with cast members). More to follow -- but much fun has ben had so far, especially because Fi and I have so much fun getting into mischief together (hee hee!). Later...
