New Moon

Ok... so my thoughts on New Moon... and there will be spoilers of all kinds so proceed at your own risk. ;)

It started off badly with Bella's stupid dream where she's an old woman with a still eternally youthful Edward... that's in the book so I suppose it's to be expected, but I found it stupid then and still find it stupid when it's on the screen.

The movie was pretty good, but there were certainly plenty of downsides as well so... instead of writing out a long summary, let's try a list.

Pros:

1. Alice and Emmett are awesome. >:D Definitely my favorite vampires.
2. Jacob actually was easy on the eyes. Sharkboy has definitely been working out. Oh and his short hair is much better than the long wig.
3. Wolves v. Laurent - nice. I love a good fight.
4. Felix v. Edward - good fight... Edward was getting his butt kicked, but still lots of fun to watch.
5. Jane = ♥ XD Dakota Fanning as an evil little vampiress was pretty cool. I've never seen her play the bad guy before.
6. The scene where Bella smacked Paul never happened in the book, but I liked the way they worked it in.
7. Charlie was adorable. Trying to keep his daughter sane... comforting her after her nightmares... trying to send her back to her mother for her own good... and cracking jokes about being a ladies man. XD
8. Italy was beautiful and so was the car Alice stole. >:D
9. Alice's new haircut was cute. Looks much better than the flippy do she had before.

Cons:
1. Not nearly enough time was spent with the Cullens to suit me... I love Alice and Emmett and they had very little time in the movie. Not that they had much in the first movie or in the book. XD
2. Edward should NEVER take his shirt off. Ew. At least shirtless Jacob has muscles and skin tone.
3. They switched around events surrounding how Bella found out Jacob's secret... Paul did lose his temper, but only after Jacob brought her to meet the pack so she could tell them what Victoria wanted.
4. They failed to capture the Volturi properly in my opinion. Aro, Caius, and Marcus were NOTHING like what I imagined when I read the book.
5. Bella's suicidal stunts were just as annoying as they were in the book. But at least in the book she turned back before winding up with some sketchy guys on the street. In the movie she actually hops on a stranger's bike when he hits on her. Pathetic.
6. Harry's death. Different from the book and I think this version is worse.
7. All the annoying scenes were Edward pops up all ghost-like during Bella's stunts. In the book I always hoped that her "hearing" his voice when risking her life could be explained by their strange connection or something, but no... she was just psychotic and hallucinating because she got dumped.
8. Did I mention that Edward should NEVER TAKE OFF HIS SHIRT.
9. There was a reason New Moon was my least favorite book - it drags in places. They sped things up slightly for the movie, but it still dragged a bit.

Some things were changed. Some of the changes were good, others were bad. I was a little sad to see that there were still so many scenes with Edward in them. XD He was in so little of the book that I was looking forward to a lack of Pattinson. Oh well. I guess they had to make the Cullen fangirls happy. (But I bet they lost some with that scene in Italy.)

Now for the experience...

It really wasn't that bad. We got there about an hour and a half before the movie to meet Mom's coworkers. There weren't many people there yet so that was good. We got to wait INSIDE the theater because our contact's son manages(owns?) the theater we went to. That really ticked off the people who'd been waiting near the doors. XD Meaning that a lot of them were cussing at us as we walked past them.

Oh well. It's good to have friends in high places. :P

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the crowd that went to the Camelot. I guess most of the rabid fangirls went to Hollywood 20. There were several Team Edward or Team Jacob shirts, but not as many as I expected. (One of the girls had a "I ♥ boys that sparkle" shirt.)

There were some cheers and squeals when certain things would happen - like Jacob stripping so he could use his shirt to dab at Bella's wounded head. (Slightly similar to the third panel of this comic. I had to laugh at that one. XD They brought the camera in so it was practically against his waist and angled the lens up for full effect. So cheesy. Such obvious fanservice.

But for the most part they were well-behaved. Mom and I had a few snarky comments here and there about the "dogs" and a lot of comments about Bella's idiocy.

My reasoning for repeating the "EDWARD SHOULD NOT REMOVE HIS SHIRT" bit. So unattractive. The book describes Edward as perfection. Actually it describes nearly all the vampires that way. And it often compares them to stone and marble when discussing the coloring and look of their skin. But Edward looked gray like a rotting corpse. A scrawny, hairy, rotting corpse with fake abs. Ew.

Funniest thing - no one in the theater cheered when Pattinson stripped. I think they were all frozen in horror. I don't expect perfection from anyone in real life, but this was for a movie! Couldn't they have done a better job than that?

At least Pattinson was good-natured about it in an interview. Some woman was asking him stuff like who'd win in real fight between him and Taylor Lautner, etc, etc... and he was straightforward in telling her that he doesn't like working out in gyms and such. That he only does what he absolutely has to for a role and then quits going again. It shows. :P

Anyways, there was surprising few screams and catcalls... though Jacob got several wolf-whistles for all of his shirtlessness. (And half the movie he was shirtless) The little Jacob fangirls behind us got annoying. They were obviously Team Jacob because when Jacob's trying to win her over they kept going "yessssssss"

I really wanted to add a comic or icon to this post, but haven't had the time and I've put off this review long enough. If I edit it to add one in I'll update and bump the post.

The movie was fun to watch, but has some obvious issues.

By the way - if you missed my earlier post: IF YOU WANT A CHRISTMAS CARD AND SMALL GIFT...

Mer and L2G I'm waiting for a reply. ;)
