character; Basch fon Ronsenburg
series; Final Fantasy XII
age; 36
class; Knight
special abilities; Basch is an extremely skilled swordsman, and focuses on close range attacks. He has some magical talent, though will never be anywhere close to a mage. He is strong, skilled in mounted combat, and archery.

He has three Quickenings, which are like limit breaks: Fulminating Darkness, Ruin Impendent, and Flame Purge.

history; "Let them watch. I know something of cages."
personality;

Basch is the quintessential knight. Duty is his very being, even dismissing his own reputation. His duty is to his country first, then to other people, and then to himself. He will continue to serve even after failure - failure does not free him of any duty oaths he had taken. He is truly a selfless person. Even after living in shame, he no longer cares what people think about him. He does what he knows to be right, and he does his duty. Everything else falls into place. If one person must bring shame to themselves in order to continue their duty, then so be it. Though, not everyone agrees with his view on it. He is also a firm believer in Fate. Everything happens for a reason. Everyone has their place in the world, and their own job to do. He doesn't believe in coincidence. He is proud and righteous, reliable to the end. He also does not look lightly on mindless violence, especially against innocents.

On outward appearances, Basch is very stoic. Many consider him rigid and uncompromising. It's not to say that he can't enjoy himself, but he keeps most of it to himself. He takes many things to heart and is rather somber. He's not quick to show emotion or lose his temper, either. A smile from him is a rare event. It's not easy for him to enjoy himself, and when he does, he rarely shows it. He is a man of few words. When he speaks, however, he means everything he says. If he says he's sorry, then he truly means that he's apologetic. He's also perfectly able to tell people what they mean to him as well. He could also be considered a little too trusting for his good. He would shoulder your guilt if it meant that you wouldn't have to live through those horrors again. He's very polite, almost formal in his speech and mannerisms, and is not known for having a temper. It's almost like he's impossible to insult. He is loyal to the end, and will stop at nothing to protect what he holds dear to himself.

Nothing he ever does is without purpose, without some cause in mind or belief to back it up. Dealing with his twin brother has shown his near infinite patience. He's continually hopeful that his brother will find peace in the end. He also carries a lot of guilt. Guilt for the fall of his homeland, for abandoning his brother and mother at that time. The guilt for allowing his king to die, not being able to stop it. In the end, Basch is someone who cares unconditionally for those he considers close to him, and will do all he can to protect them.

starter task?; yes

first person sample;

Penelo -

Your letter was most welcomed. Life in Archades finds me well. As for "furthering the cause of peace in Ivalice," would you not want peace to continue?

I will be present with Lord Larsa at the coronation. You will be there as well? I look forward to seeing you and Vaan again. Perhaps you can keep him out of trouble until then. He takes on too many of Balthier's more unsavory qualities.

[He pauses writing for a moment, thinking.] I look forward to seeing Her Majesty as well. Give her my regards, Penelo.

-Basch

third person sample;

The coronation was only two days away. Larsa had mentioned to him that he had wanted to get there early to see everyone again, and Basch had, of course, agreed to accompany him. The small ship they were on offered close quarters, and while he and Larsa spoke on some things - the coronation, seeing the others again - Basch had remained nearly silent. After a year, how much had changed? How much had he changed?

The helmet on his head weighed heavy, even after all this time. The circumstances in which it happened should have never happened. He had wished his brother would find peace any other way. Protect Larsa, his brother had told him. Peace finally came to his younger brother after all those years of hatred, and he took up Noah's charge. Larsa would be well-protected.

His thoughts drifted to Penelo and Vaan. Mere children still, dragged into a war they should have never seen. They had grown up so much in the time they had all traveled together. Were they those children still, like he remembered, or had they grown more? He had hoped, for his sake, and everyone else, that they would keep out of trouble. Penelo had a strong head on her shoulders... she would watch over the fledgling Sky Pirate.

As for Sky Pirates, they had not heard from Balthier and Fran in some time. Off on some treasure hunt, he presumed. As much as he'd never admit aloud, Balthier had been a valued companion on their travels. They had shared the same values, though his were twisted in a different way. He offered a differing opinion, one that was often heeded. If he had not chosen piracy, Basch could see him being a formidable soldier. His devotion to seeing Ashe through her trials was admirable.

His thoughts, finally, landed on Ashe. Was Penelo's letter actually right? He wouldn't dare think it. Yes, in some way, he did miss Ashe. Even though he now served Larsa, his oath and duty would forever be to Ashe and Dalmasca. He wouldn't think on it more. Penelo must be joking.

Larsa's voice broke through his musings. "We are here."

Basch's head snapped up, and immediately he frowned under the helmet. He had let his guard down for those few moments. "Right. Let us go then, my Lord."
