Can't sleep
I haven't posted anything of any significance this year. That is a waste and a problem on my part. Part of it has been my fascination with twitter. But truth is twitter is just a distraction. A fun distraction, without question, but a distraction.
Life is basically is a very slow transition.
My job as messaging geek for big multinational bank is still there and still ok. It has many days that are not so great, but its a decent job and the technical parts of it are interesting and are keeping me current enough with my core technologies. Am I as bleeding edge as I was working at Microsoft. No. Not event close. But its ok. Also, I do like that a 50 hour week is a long week. As opposed to much longer weeks at Microsoft.
But big corporate politics is no fun anywhere. But I am so much better at that then I was in my youth. Part of it is that I at least understand that I need to be patient occasionally. Or at least try to come off that way. Also, I understand that I can't change the company and that is really ok.
My personal life is going well. Its now been a year and a month in my apartment. I love having my own place. Its a simple apartment and I can afford it. Im glad i am not tied down to owning a house right now. Also having my own playroom is one of the greatest luxuries I have ever experienced.
Its just so much damn fun. Yeah, I should probably use it as an office, but fuck it. I live alone so what the fuck, why not enjoy it.
Also, I have been throwing some damn fun play parties. Im glad I have done that. But I think I am going to pull that back a bit and have another housewarming party after I get my next project done.
Ahh, what is the next project. The next project is to get my apartment from functional and simple to handsome and attractive.
So its going to be in stages.
1> Clean like a mofo. Spring Cleaning has not occured to the degree it should.
2> Get the place ready for REGULAR MAID SERVICE every two weeks.
3> Get more artwork for the bedroom
4> Rearragne the furniture in the bedroom, also get new night stands.
5> Get the TV in the bedroom fixed / replaced.
6> complete new network project (Gigabit Cat 5E or Cat 6 cable to all the rooms.
7> More artwork for the living room
8> New cusions/covers for the living room set.
Its a lot to get done, but it can be done before summer hits big time.
I think improving my apartment will lift my spirits.
Also, the forthcoming trip to Chicago for International Mr. Leather will improve my mood too.
In fact, I cant wait. I am so proud of my friend Jeffrey Payne. He has been one hell of an IML. He has traveled more extensively than any IML I can remember. He also has become a good friend and he has worked so hard.
Sometimes I wonder why I am still a part of the leather community. It can be so dysfunctional and odd. But then that is a part of why I love it.
Also, its a part of who I am. I have been a leathermen since I snuck into the DC eagle at 16 years old.
The leather community will always be home.
So back to why fix up the house. Mainly cause I want it to do more than just function. Also, I want to to be a place where I can bring guys and have them be as impressed with my bedroom and the living room as they are with the playroom. But then to do that I have to put the same kind of care, effort and thought into the rest of the place as I did to my playroom.
Also, I need to work on better sleep habbits. Tonight its a sinus headache that is keeping me up. But still Its almost 5am and I havent been to sleep.
Im rambling, so its time to watch junky tv till I fall asleep.
