Yesterday I didn't go to work. I had been feeling "off" for a few days, and on Tuesday night, my stomach kept heaving, though I didn't actually get sick. This kept me awake until 3:30 AM, so I when I awoke at 6:30 still feeling sick, I called in. I popped a couple of Tylenol with Codeine (mercifully available OTC up here) and comfortably rested about half the day in a opiate-induced sleep.
After lunch I sat up for a while. My birds were all very active, and the canary hen, responding to the lengthening days, was in full nest building mode. Any little piece of tissue or paper or thread I put in the cage she would snap up and promptly weave into her nest. I took a few pictures of her progress so far, posted
here on my flickr site.
I remember reading that male canaries are more attracted to females who build good nests; males in turn, attract females by singing.
Then a though occurred to me: If a female canary went to a plastic surgeon, would she ask for nest enhancements?
