It's quite brisk and wintry today and despite being St. Patricks, there's very little green around outside. It occurs to me this morning that it isn't snow or winter some people dislike in march so much as the monotony. In the other seasons everything changes a bit every day; leaves appearing or growing or falling, some plants flowering while others go to seed, animals and birds growing up.
This past saturday we went to a nearby spot called
Lakeview Greenhouses to take in some green. It's a very large greenhouse complex, several acres in area, featuring a sort of indoor garden of house-plants and cacti, all grown on site and all for sale. They also have a resident dog and several finches, in cages, for people to see; and it feels very warm and summery in there. The place was quite busy when we went and I think many visitors had the same thought as we did. It would be the kind of place I'd love to work if I could get by on the lower wages.
I'm kind of hesitant about the walk home today from work as I pass through an area of student residences and private housing. In past years I've encountered groups of mostly male students, already seriously drunk and rowdy at 4:30 in the afternoon, running around shouting and throwing things at each other. I've never been hit or even noticed by the revelers but still, it's a bit nerve wracking. I walk as quickly as possible and get out of their radius.
