I posted about this last year too, but the absolute worst song at this time of year is that damn "Christmas Shoes" one. We have a horrible christmas song that they only play in DC. I thankfully only hear it maybe once a year but the minute I do hear it come on I run from the room. It's called "Christmas Time in Washing-Town" or at least that's how the old warbly guy who sings it pronounces it. Just hearing the schmaltz oozing out of the radio makes me want to stab something.

I remember you mentioning that one last year. At least it's mercifully kept local.

Thankfully I've missed hearing that one the past couple of years.

What does a dying woman need SHOES for, anyway? To impress St. Peter?

I've never met anyone who likes it, but for whatever reason they play it everywhere up here. Ugh.

I like to add to the story using my warped imagination, in that the time and effort spent on the gift only makes things worse. I imagine the boy's mother has always been one to speak before thinking, and when she sees the shoes, her dying words are, "They're so... tacky..."
