I'm here posting from the tiny little public library which is up the road from my childhood home in Peterborough. Easter Saturday is a day of ritual for me; I visit the library and then go for a long, long walk (3 or 4 hours), usually through my old neighborhood. I'm about to head out for that now, despite the cold.
My long walk serves three purposes. First is for exercise. Second is for sentimentality, and to some degree spirituality, as I tend to think and reflect deeply about things when walking.
Third is to remember the Easter Saturday when I was 14 years old, got in a big hissyfight with my mother, ran screaming out of the house and, fueled on sheer spite, vengefulness and determination, pushed my pudgy teenage body to ride my bike for 5 hours to my grandparents house. Even now, I feel great pride I was able to go that far.
Even today, anger is still one of my best motivators.
