Lawn sign survey

Nov 17, 2006 08:01

Last night I did an informal survery by driving around my riding of London North Centre. As some of you may know, our federal MP stepped down and there's a by-election. Our PM recruited Diane Haskett, former mayor of London, who's been working for the Republicans in D.C. for the past 5 years, and who has a virulent and thinly disguised dislike of ( Read more... )

That's the problem with being a pragmatic Green like I am. Most of the time I can't vote for Greens because they're either a) batshit crazy or b) potential spoilers in favor of a more conservative candidate. The last time I was able to vote Green in good conscience was (oddly enough) the 2000 presidential election; I was only able to vote Nader because it was obvious that my district (and hence my state) would go to Gore (which it did, by a large margin.) Most of the time, though, I hold my nose and vote Democratic, because they're Not-Republicans who stand a chance of winning. ;)

And that's exactly how I'm divided on voting here. The main rivals to the Conservatives are the Liberals, but I really don't like either.

The Green party is drawing more support in Canada over the past few elections; at this point, it's looking they will elect at least one MP or even two or three over the next 5 years. They do get enough of the vote to get Federal funding as well. It's quite possible my riding could be the first to elect one. She seems to be creating much interest here, so I'm hoepful.

One of the benefits of this being a by-election is that even if the vote splits, the winner will only be in for a short time. I can't see the government lasting more than a year, and the Conservatives will probably go for a summer election if they get to choose.

I'm voting Green. I sometimes waffle towards NDP still, but my heart is Green.

I think I'm voting green too (in fact, I'm likely voting tonight in the advance poll).

Have you noticed the trend in lawn signs? I didn't get as far over as where your place is in my informal poll.

Almost no signs in our area, except on major corners.

just in my general neighbourhood I've noticed moslty ndp signs, a handful of conservative and green signs, and a couple liberal signs.

But then again, I live pretty much on the border of a currently ndp riding, so that makes sense.

and I've always heard that green's bleed blue, but from what I've heard this candidate is different. So for once during one of these elections that I'm eligable to vote in, I'm totally undecided

Join two other London bears and the girl I work with in voting Green. I think it's time we got one elected.

I just voted in the advance poll, and I did indeed vote Green. Elizabeth May got the most chirps from the finches when I reviewed the candidates with them. And I think they'd like you to vote Green too :p
