Final update for the night...
It's 11:30(ish) and it's time to head home from the studio (of Doom!)
I reinforced the edge of the back with a whipped edging, attached the pin backing (a nicer one than I usually use, it's a nice find) and started the detached buttonhole stitch over gold thread. The plan to finish by tomorrow looks feasible. Woot!
