So, I am going to be thrust into a classroom my first year with no materials. I want to inspire children and give them a love to reading!! In order to do so, I need some amazing books, not just the ones that come in the text books(basals). Often times, the text books cut up trade books, leaving out artwork and stuffing all of the words onto one page. This changes the quality of the book in my opinion, and it is not worthwhile for children.
I need to start building my supply of books now, so that I have a large library of books for my children to choose books from , and to read throughout the year. Also, I need a large supply of separate read aloud books, that the students haven't read until after I read it to them. These I have selected for their quality of picture, quality of voice, and literary features--like predicting the ending. I have also selected books with boys in mind, because often times boys are left out in the classroom and books are selected to appeal to their interests. (Hence--"sparrowboy") Jon Scieszka has a site about this at www.guysread.com.
So, when christmas rolls around, or my birthday, or...um...secretary's day...just check out my wishlist and pick out a good book for me! :)
Thankyas!
