Pez(r) has trans-fat?

You might expect Butterfinger(tm) to have trans-fat in it (it does), but Pez(r) candy?

Caffeine Free PEZ Cola Candy: Net wt. .29 oz (8.5g)
Made by/for nutrition info: Pez Candy Inc., PO Box 541, Orange CT 06477-4021 USA

Ingredients: Sugar, corn syrup, adipic acid, sodium bicarb., hydrog. palm kernel & palm oils and soybean oil mono & diglycerides, artificial flavor, color.

BTW: Hydrogenated fats are the worst trans-fats. There are "partially hydrogenated" versions.

Urban myths/trivia: Trans-fat became a consumer product after the farming industry was unable to use the goop to fatten turkeys. (They died from coronary failure early in life, I believe.) Some brilliant person thought, "Hey! Let's make a butter substitute out of this - we can claim it has no cholesterol!"

And thus the sale of partially and wholly hydrogenated oil products was born. And only recently have we learned that real butter is significantly healthier for you than margarine and other trans-fat containing products.

Why Pez Cola needs any fats in it is beyond me. It's tart and sweet - I can't even sense the "umani" flavor that transfats apparently add to food (giving it a buttery, rich or creamy flavor).

candy, trans-fat, wtf
